Have had CEL come on a couple of times, and car is going in to dealers for diagnosing the codes. Is it a case of replacing the offending sensor etc will rectify the problem, or could other faults result in a sensor giving wrong info and lighting the CEL ??

Is it a case of hoping the technician can work back from a fault code / check other readings on the select monitor to confirm the reason for a sensor giving info resulting in CEL?

The fault codes are usually very specific. It depends whats failed as to whether that is masking other issues.

John, thanks for the info.

Started to get a slight irratic idle and had CEL twice whilst stationary in traffic (went off as soon as I pulled away)... I suspect, as does the dealer, that it will be the code for the MAF sensor?

Do you have the code yet? MAF's tend to either deteriorate slowly with no code thrown or fail completely so wont clear. You may find its the O2 sensor. Either way it should be pretty straight forward. It's handy having a PSI3 or Delta dash as these allow you to look at the current and historic CEL codes stored in the ECU.
