I was after your thoughts on a previous thread about PPP on a 97MY UK spec.

Spoke to someone who has driven MY01 with PPP. He said it was 'awesome'. Sounds like it will be worth the wait for those who can afford it.

Opinions seem to be divided on the 97/98MY performance package.
We have had a handful of customers who have been disappointed with the package, but we have had hundreds that love it. There has been one or two cars that have given us a particular problem, one of which actually turned out to have a partially blocked catalyst.
Stef has fitted our ECU with all his other mods and found that it gave a significant improvement to mid-range torque which is exactly what it was designed to do. Unfortunately the ECU isn't available separately, Stef bought his secondhand.

The spec of the ECU is of course fixed, but using something like the Link ECU could be tailored to your spec of car if you have the facility and knowledge to do so. The ECU is only as good as the mapping you put in it.

I can confirm my MY98 (last car) did have a partially blocked cat or cats. As I was unhappy with the performance of the PPP on my car, Prodrive (Mike) gave me back my money and suggested to my dealer to look at the exhaust as the car sounded quieter than it should. Subaru were unhappy with putting a new set of cats on a new car, but they did at a cost of £700 to them. The car felt instantly better.

Thanks for asking. It is now as well as it can be without reducing my 237 bhp!!. I was finally put in touch with a good guy at IM. They replaced the MAF, throttle sensor, a valve and there was a loose pipe on the 'charcoal thingy' under the engine. Also got new brakes all round and a P1 clutch housing. After 6 months I am a happy bunny.
Thanks for your advice in the early days of my problem, it meant a lot to me.

I know that strictly speaking the PPP components were designed to go together, but I'm pretty sure that's got more to do with the legalities of the situation rather than getting the best out of it.
CK1 has never felt so good, and I won't be changing my PPP ecu for quite some time.
I'm looking forward to getting on the rollers at PE to get a comparison with my other figures, and see if I can buck the trend of poor PPP performance. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

What about those of us in the US? We just got our WRX over here, and most of us would love to have a prodrive setup. Will your MY01 kit work on our cars?

Mike I am with Steff on this one, my car when I bought it had the Prodrive suspension, body kit ect but not the PPP, but yes I found a second hand one and now the car is so much more fun when pushing hard.

thankyou for a reply, I realise that it must seem a bit menial but it is appreciated to have expertise on a BBS such as this.
It would seem by your statement, that the PPP package will give a vast improvement on standard car, i.e. no mod's whatsoever!
But a WELL MAPPED Link ECU module with mod's could be better.
I have been in contact with BR Development's as I have heard good feedback on these guy's, so this is probably where I will be going.

if you had the chance again, would you not go for a well mapped Link ECU with all your mod's?????? As even Mike and others point out, there are vast improvements with a WELL MAPPED link ECU. Any thoughts.......?

P.S. Stef, thanks for your advice on piston slap concern many months back. It turned out to be camshaft pulley bearing after all. It had already had the short motor fix, etc. 10K miles previously.

Changing the ECU on it's own will not give a significant increase necessarily but may give the opportunity to get the best from some other breathing mods like a different exhaust. An engine's power output is almost directly proportional to the amount of gas that will pass through it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
