===WRX=== 02 January 2004 02:35 PM

Im running a PowerFC, with an AVC-R, Uprated 280lt Fuel Pump, Uprated Actuator, HKS induction, HKS SSQV, HKS Plugs, full stainless system with downpipe, standard Turbo and standard Intercooler ( soon to changed ), the boost is set to 1.2bar, but recently has been spiking...1.3bar right up to 1.4 when accelerating in 3rd r..and its worring me slightly, the car is never pushed hard for long periods, and is always warmed up and down.
The Mapping was done By RC Developments , everything was great for months then the boost started to spike on cold days..and under load in 2nd 3rd

whats the safest boost i can run on standard internals, the powerFC has a built in Knock and Det Saftey sensor and will back off the boost if it feels in danger...but i get nothing at all...it just keeps pulling right through the rev range.

any help on this topic would be great.

all the best for 2004

no-one at all......:(

if i were you i would take it back to RC as soon as pos!

when they mapped my car they set it up to run 1.2 bar boost and i was happy with that, the problem was when they mapped it they had only mapped the sites on the ignition map that were used at or upto 1.2 bar.
if my car had boost spiked it would have jumped into a site on the map that hadn't been adjusted!
if it had it would have put an extra 10 deg of ignition advance in and caused the car to det and possibly melt a piston!!!!

thanks...ill do just that..ive knocked the boost onto the lower setting just to be safe..

Just go and see Mr Forrest:)

Funny that, as my car did the same as yours, I needed a new engine.

When my car was mapped by RC my check engine light NEVER flashed to indicate knock. I used to run on Optimax alone. RB Motorsport mapped the car and whenever I used Optimax alone the CEL was on and off all the time, and when NF was added no CEL been seen since.
Strange...

Jay

I don't know who told you this ? The PFC will only indicate det and will NOT "back off the boost if it feels in danger"
The boost on your car is controlled from the AVC-R and this has no knock input.

The current boost you are running should not cause any problems as long as the map is safe with regard to ignition timing and Air/Fuel ratio in the zones used.

even if it spikes to 1.4bar........as for the knock detection and so forth, i think thats my mistake.....

the map has been done corretly taking into concideration of the fueling as soforth ( to the best of my knowlage)

I thought that if the AVCR requested only the 1.2bar level, that that is all it would "put out" so to speak????

any more info on this would be great..

There are many different ways to set up the AVC-R. A standard set up should have no overboost, it should hold 1.2 steady.

It is however possible to set it up to deliberately overboost in the lower gears for improved performance. For this to be safe, the PFC must be mapped into the zones that the overboost accesses.

I'm not sure that your ECU will be mapped to 1.4 bar if it was originally running at a steady 1.2 bar.

I took it bac to RC when i first noticed it, i had it reset back into the learning mode, and all was great 1.2bar no problem, with the odd spike in the first few days..but over the last few weeks im hitting over 1.2 daily...1.3bar this morning on the way to work.....

any ideas what i need to do or what could be causing this...faulty actuator maybe????...im out of my depth here.

cheers for the advice
