Will this just make my problem worse and give me no noticeable performance gains?

Hi Rik, my car was fine till I fitted the green mushroom then all of a sudden I got overboost. I have since had the Link fitted and this has cured the overboost. If you are getting overboost prior to the airfilter being fitted it'll be worse if you fit a "performance" filter I'm pretty sure http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

My MY96 ran fine until I fitted K&N induction kit then got overboost/cut-out/brick wall effect. Had to take it off in the end.

I am thinking about getting an HKS EVC IV to cure it. Does anyone know if this is a good idea?

Using an EVC, is a flippin expensive way to cure overboost. It can be cured quite easily by using restrictors/hose dia', it just needs someone who knows what he's doing, to get it right.

Alternatively, get a Link.

I have tried this. Lavender Hill fit one and it cured it but I lost 0.2 Bar of boost, so I got them to take it out.

From everything I have read, other than cleaning the solenoid and pipes - which has been done, I haven't seen any cures for overboost that retains boost levels unless it is an elctronic boost controllor.

Like I said, it takes some time to get the correct set up, and sometimes two restrictors may be needed, and the positioning can be critical. Dealers don't have the time, or the inclination (in the main) to spend the time needed, they just whack one in, knowing it will slug the boost.

There are many sizes of restrictor, it just takes time to find the right one for your car.

EVC's have their place, but what happens if/when you want to further improve your cars performance, Fcon5 ?? (£800) to sort the fuelling, and ignition. It's just an expensive, complicated route to go.

As far as my understanding goes, and pleeeasse correct me if i am wrong, my boost is being cut at 0.8-9 Bar which is too early. Fitting a restrictor of any size and taking however much time will not allow my boost to rise too or past 0.8 Bar without the ecu cutting the boost? May be talking cobblers but that is how i understand it?
