Just bought a 97 turbo and noticed the clutch pedal seems very high compared to other cars. The clutch bites when the pedal is only a fraction from the top, does this mean the clutch is on it's way out (doesn't seem to be slipping) and how much are replacements?

Robby,

May just need adjusting but it's usually a sign of wear. Best way to test for slip is to keep it about 3000rpm in 3rd an floor it. Try some other gears as well but normally above 3rd. Mine's slipping at the mo and being replaced next weekend. Mine doesn't judder or smell but it bites high up.

If its just the clutch, you're looking at around £600 fitted from the dealer, if the flywheel is shagged as well it'll be another £300 on top. My local motorsport company are fitting mine and a possible flywheel remachine for £500. The dealer wont offer to re-machine it...

all turbos have hydraulic clutches so you can't adjust them but it does sound like you need a new one.
