I know this has been mentioned before, and rear projection has by the looks of things been slated on here before.

But Argos are advertising a 43" Toshiba for £699

http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/st...ageId=-1&top=N

Im not a television buff, nor will i be watching it less than 5ft away from the screen and not with sun on screen etc.

Will i be disappointed with the money i spend?

I havent had the opportunity to see it in the flesh as yet.

Don't get the 43" Tosh if your viewing that close.

I used to have that set, my mother has it now, it's only a 50hz set and you will get visible flicker and picture structure that close. They are cheap because no one want's a 4X3 set anymore.

Pay extra and buy a decent widescreen set and I would go for 100hz at that viewing distance.

I currently have a 46" Toshiba and the picture quality is suberb. Don't be put off with viewing angle issues, the latest sets offer a very wide viewing range, you have to be virtually viewing from the side to loose acceptable contrast although most sets don't like to be viewed from above picture height. Most instore sets are set up crap, they need to have the convergence and contrast setup correctly to give pinsharp results.

I just wish manufacturers would offer black/grey alternatives to this silver crap that's all the fashion. A big 50" set in silver sticks out like a sore thumb in an average room and causes relections when viewing films in the dark.
