is there a way of getting rid of patches of colour on a CRT tv? it's a hitachi widescreen, and has had a blob of green on the screen for ages. it's not that noticable, but when sopmething light coloured is in that part of the screen, it has a green tinge. people look a bit sick when they appear there.

i remember someone saying that you can do something to re-set the coulors, but can't remember what it was.

cheers.

Sounds to me like you have had a speaker too close to it m8. The speaker magnet has magnetised the 'shadow mask' that is just beyond ye glass causing this effect...

You can buy a demagnetizer - bit a bit like a big hairdryer that humms, or take it to a TV workshop to be demagnetised. Only a 2 min job... They would call it 'de-gaussing' in th trade - this is named after my great uncle Gauss who actually invented magnetic fields ;)

I did try to find a degas whatever function, but i don't think it has one. i'll take it along to a shop - maybe they will be able to fix my video at the same time...

cheers :)

Have a look here:
http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/tvfaq.htm

Tells you how to degauze and everthing. Also I think there is a way to help clean it up by swtiching on for 1 min, then off for 20mins, on for 1 min off for 20mins...repeating for about 20 odd times (read the Faq in the link....it says it somewhere)

edit: here!! :) http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/tvfaq.htm#tvdegacrt

I seem to remember a lesson at school, which explained that shock and vibration de-magnetises things which are magnetised. It shuffles all the poles about apparently.

So take it up stairs and chuck it out the window, that should sort it out!
