Chaps,
I can recall many threads on this topic but the detail eludes me. The dealership that services my scoob has now, I believe, overfilled my oil level twice! I have read in the past that this oil can clog something to do with the boost lines / breathing / induction ???????
There was something about washing a valve out or something, but I cant remember the component in question.
Any help is greatly appreciated from you chaps.....

Thanks in advance.....Jacko

Jacko,

Boost Control Solenoid mounted on your offside Suspension mount.

Depending on what year your car is the earlier scoobs have 3 port solenoids & later ones 2 port solenoid. Clean with Aerosol Brake cleaner both in the pipe.

More info can be found in this thread :

Jacko,

What happens is the oil foams under extreme pressure and in effect u push air bubbles around instead of lubricant. Drain some out and go ave a word with u r dealer b 4 u seize something up. Better still get them to sort the cockup http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Thanks chaps for the info.
I have read the linf/thread and will go out and purchase some Brake cleaner stuff as per thread. I do have 97MY, so I Know I have a 3 port solenoid. I will check the restrictor as well....maybe might start to play with it...mmmmmmmmm perhaps!
Good 2 know that the BBS is always at hand to International Rescue.

Just cleaned the 3 port solenoid on my MY95 WRX - thanks to Neil for the instructions - and it has made a really big difference. Still got the odd cough this morning but think I'll leave it now till service time. Hopefully no more problems now I have a reasonable oil level !!
Thanks again

Ken

It is very easy to overfill the scoob and I have done it myself . If you don't drain out some oil to return it to the correct level you can start to get oil leaks . I ended up having to replace the crankshaft oil seal because it wouldn't stop leaking - even after the oil was returned to the correct level .

Just been outside to check and found that on my 97MY I have a 2-port type of solenoid!
I have a short hose from actuator to T-piece, another short hose from T-piece to Turbo inlet and a long hum-dinger hose from T-piece to solenoid. There is then another long hum-dinger hose from solenoid to Intake plenum just after the MAF houseing.

Just to be on the safe side, I'm still gonna clean all 4 hoses and solenoid http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif .

Ken,

Glad to see that it made some difference, I had the same results. When cold I occasionally get a cough/splutter, I now make sure the engine is fully warmed up before hitting the gas with any oomph.
I didn't get my Coilpacks & Plugs fitted at the weekend as the Coil Packs hadn't arrived http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif I'll be putting them in of Thursday and I'll keep you posted.
