after a couple of months of my front wheels spinning and sort of banging etc, especially when trying to turn at full lock (not going fast, talking about 1-8 mpg here) i took it to a local mechanic...not a subaru guy, he knows fook all about scoobys, but he has told me that my diff is knackered (sti 4 type-R)

don't suppose it could be just a case of low oil etc?

How much am i looking for a new diff or rebuild of the centre diff etc?

I've been told it's 4k.

If so, i'm selling the bloody thing and getting a M3 or t/t supra.

Any help...VERY much appreciated

cheers
Matt

Was it like it when you bought it?, worth asking because some Japanese imports (what is your car?) can have plate diff's in (which will make some loud clonking/clicking and snatchy feelings at low speed turns). My car was like this, might be worth mentioning.

Also 4k for the diff is maybe brand new subaru, but you could get one from a subaru breakers for circa £200 I would imagine.

I gave my car to a normal garage, they took the box off and gave it to a gearbox builder, he took the plate diff (think that or poss your knackered diff) out and replaced it with a standard one.

All in all for the labour cost me circa £350 and that included fitting a new clutch and flywheel to my car.
