Pulled out of a blind junction to find an overtaking car hurtling towards me. Absolutely booted 1st and second, then as i'd sped up considerably, i went straight for 5th (yes yes i know!). Anyway, the clutch was fully to the floor and yet it still crunched....

Narrr just probably thought 5th (dunno why though) but the muscle memory pushed the stick towards 3rd.. the combination meant you probably fluffed it hence the crunch.. there might even be a reason with the cog selection that going from 2nd to 5th is more likely to crunch as you are unlikely to have moved to neutral and then 5th.. more of a push from 2nd straight into 5th.
Try using 1st, then 2nd, 3rd, 4th and then 5th.. lol.. 5th to 2nd seems fine but never tried 2nd to 5th.. You will know when the gearbox is on it's way out.. there will be no doubting it.. JGM :) |
Sounds more like your clutch not releasing fully. If it's a bit tired then a full bore start might make it a bit unhappy.

It did it this morning (albeit a lot lot less obvious) 4th to 5th when booting it up my fav hill! I see a warranty job coming on...
Clutch has about 1k on it!!!! http://www.sidtech.co.uk/iu/sidhead2472240160.gif Andy [Edited by SiDHEaD - 12/24/2003 9:27:37 AM] |
What model year/ type as P1's / StiV's have a problem with a retaining nut in the box that works loose and causes graunches on 5th initially, only at high revs and gradually worsens. had mine done a couple of times. There is supposedly a fix available now.
