For all you geezers running on 225/35/18s like myself - what tyres have you bought and how do you rate them?

I'm still on Pirelli P-Zero Assimetrico's (same type as fitted originally I believe - to P1 18" wheel upgrade) and still have plenty of tread on them. I can't really fault them - but then have nothing to compare them against.

Your responses would be appreciated.

Cheers

Terry

i used to run goodyear f1's on my p1

Bridgestone SO3 for me and Paul Corrigan, both think they are far better than P-Zero's, I have had P Zero and Falkens on mine both crap compared to SO3. Most people will tell you to go for Toyos or Goodyear F1's, there is also a Michelin sport tyre out so that may be another option.

You can still buy Bridgestone SO2 PP's in this size. These are the best tyres i have ever tried, by a masive margin.

I have Falken 451 225/35/18. The have excellent grip in the wet and dry (came out top in both wet and dry braking distance in an Aussie car mag).

Anyone actually rate the Pirelli's???

Surely Prodrive wouldn't fit them if they weren't good...

alanjack 26 December 2003 10:47 AM

Falkens are cr4p. They are the worst thing I have ever had on my car. They are classed as a performance tyre but they are the worst of the bunch. I would never consider fitting these again and wouldn't recommend them to anyone either.

As for the Pirrelli, they are ok but there are better tyres.

johnfelstead 26 December 2003 11:06 AM

The Pirelli road tyres i have tried have been apauling in the wet and not that good in the dry. The tyres fitted to the P1 are dangerous in winter IMHO, very very poor grip levels. Subaru fit Bridgestone to their cars, its Prodrive that spec the Pirelli tyre. SWRT use Pirelli tyres but these are nothing like the road tyres.

If you havnt tried the Bridgestone SO2 PP, then give it a go, it's far superior to the SO3 and T1S.

alanjack i'm curious which models of these tyres you have tried. Exactly what feature of them make them as bad as you say? I have also run Toyos and Goodyear F1s and I wouldn't rate them as anything special.

Model I had was IIRC the 451. It is hard to say an exact feature, but confidence level was 5/10 compared to the later fitted Pirelli's 0 /10 compared to S03's. If you think the Falkens are up there with the Eagle F1's then you must be dangerous:)

Pete99 27 December 2003 05:10 AM

The Eagle F1s I had were the GS-d2s and I understand they are not as good as the new ones. I'm no expert but considering the low price of the Falkens I still reckon they are pretty good value.
