Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.

How does the psi3 secs display info on boost, egt, temp, etc from the ecu ? Is it realtime or does it display the value set at the ecu ? I mean, if you set the boost at 15 bar yourself like through a boost controller, will the psi3 secs always display boost as 15 bar as you' ve set or will it display the flunctuations in boost (actual readings like 14.3, 14.7, 15.5, etc) as you drive ? Does it do the same with the other readings in EGT, water temp, etc ?

It reads the info from the ECU so if you are using a device to raise the boost which fools the ECU into raising the boost, you will see the wrong value.

As always, I stand to be corrected!

I' m not using anything to fool the ecu. I was thinking of getting an ecu reflash. So, all readings on the psi3 secs are supposed to be actual realtime measurements ?

PSI3 21 December 2003 09:14 AM

All readings are real time but will only report what the ECU sees, as Steve says if a boost clamp type device is used the ECU will not see the correct boost BUT we have just added the ability for the user to select boost from either the ECU, OR from a additional boost sensor ( we use/sell Defi sensors ) .

Any news on the chip for the PSI3 to work on MY98 cars Simon?

The secs on me' 02 wrx only reads upto 22.7 psi even though boost is higher. I've had the car TEK3'd and then fitted a dawes...I think the ECU will still read the actual boost with dawes fitted as it takes away control of wastegate - don't know why secs stops at 22.7 though.

Dark Blue Mark 22 December 2003 07:32 PM

22.7 psi = 1.56 bar

The reading on the PSI3 would be my last worry at that pressure  The pistons coming out the block and taking my head off would be high on the list though :D

You cant be running that high, surely?

22 - 23 psi was the max we were seeing from standard Ecu's so it was our upper limnit. Now we offer version for other cars like Evo's ;) :D that don't have a MAP sensor we included the option for external boost sensors at the same time we have raised the boost limit.

Pre '98
We hope to be close to finishing the pre '98 tomorrow 23/12/03 - we are spending the day checking latest changes to software on a friends car - thanks Ian.

Hi Simon,

Steve here, you fitted a SECS unit for Tom (Rum*) and me (P1) down in Banbury in October?

Just a quick question, the boost figures I see look a little low, Peak 1.1, held 0.9 bar ish. I expected (rightly or wrongly) more like 1.2 & 1.1 bar?

Wondered if Prodrive have tweaked what boost the ECU see's the same way they have with the Peak road speed or do I have a real boost issue?

I also need to arrange for extra sensors, Oil temp/pressure (and Lamda?) in the new year.

All the best,

Steve.
