For a wrx sti 5 is it sensible to use octane boosters given that i'm already using 97 ron super unleaded or should it be used just for track or not at all? and if it should be used which one is the best and can they do any harm ?

HELP !

Well I don't claim to be an expert but I noticed some 'tinkly' noises on full boost when 97RON fuel first replaced 98RON, so since then I've always added a booster: firstly Silkolene Pro Boost and recently changed to Millers Octane Plus. I've also had a Knocklink fitted. My car's a Type R version 5.

Results:

1. No tinklies now
2. Can't tell which booster is best, but Millers is cheaper
3. Knocklink is at max senstivity but rarely goes past first green light. I've seen the red light flash on only two occasions.
4. Fuel consumption is about 10% better with octane booster/97 than it was on 98RON alone.

Hope this helps

Just stopped using octane booster and my car seems to run better on just 97 then both. Just had it serviced though, next day. Maybe they reset the ecu. I drive it like a fanny most of the time so maybe this has something to do with it? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif

What does anyone think?

Scotty.

Scotty,

How does a fanny drive? Might make an interesting topic in 'General'.
