...Ok, may'be alittle exagerated, but these things should be banned. I have recently read the horror stories on hear but unfortunetely my Scoob came fitted with them. I thourght i could wear them out before getting them replaced...but this is not such a good idea.
Just going around bends in slightly damp conditions has brought out the very best of my limited driving skills....Subaru should have signed me up as there second driver :D

I would recommend you look at Goodyear Eagle F1, Toyo Proxies TS-1 and Bridgestone SO-3 tyres instead!!! :)

Huw, I hope you didn't buy the car to save money;) Like all Subes, corner cutting can have some rather large ramifications for performance.

Stick to the good rubber - IMHO only the S-03 or F1 GS-D3 will do. You'll get more smiles per mile, and a safer car for it.

The worst tyre I've ever tried! Avon must have lost so many potential customers as a result, as it will be a long time before I try some Avon tyres again

definatly when i upgraded to 17s had them fitted i thought the legendry handling and roadholding of the scoobs was well definatly overrated until i did a 180 at relativly slow speed so took them back to the shop i bought them complained and they replaced them toyos free of chage

suddenly the legendry roadholding was there

Yep they are PROPER ****e in the wet, they were fitted to the front of my first cossie I owned when I bought it. Must have been the only RWD cossie that had an understeer problem!!! LOL It was just like the front had a layer of ice attached to them!! They were almost brand new but I changed them almost immediately to Eagle's.............HUGE difference wet or dry!!

I bloody hope so... Just bought a Nissan 200sx and it has ZZ3's on.

A certain person on here fitts them when he wants his scoob to doughnut cos they have bugger all grip :D

I had ZZ1's on my old MY99 Turbo scoob, came fitted with them ... despite not needing new tyres in 29k miles they were bl00dy awful in the wet and OKish in the dry, I too had 'similar' experiences especially around roundabouts ;)

Try Toyo Proxes TS-1, these are great and cheaper too ... worth changing the tyres now IMHO if you have the cash and keep the others as spares ... you won't regret :D

Another vote for the ZZ'3,they are great and in these horrible damp conditions p#ss all over them Toyo things which i will never put on my car again and i dont care what anybody on here says in their favour.
I cant for the life of me find why so many people rate them.

Yep likewise, absolutly sh*te in wet or damp conditions, I've got a set of F1 GSD-3's on the scooby, i'd go for them before anything else

I wouldn't go to the extent that they are dangerous, or the world's worst tyre (try a set of Road Champs - now they really are lethal!!).

I do notice that they are very sensitive to tyre pressures though -having too much in the back can make the rear do little dances when you don't want it to .

Personally I find them worse in the dry - they give NO warning what-so-ever. Grip, then no grip - they break grip more progressivly in the damp/wet IMO. Admittedly overall grip in the wet is poor in the first place though.

Perhaps some diesel on the road? Ask any biker what they think of diesel on damp roads and I'm sure you'll know what I mean ;)

My main irritation with them is horrendous road noise they give on 17" rims :(

You can appreciate the continuous rear end action i got !

turn in ON THE POWER, and the back still goes ! only bad in the wet though...not too bad bad in the dry. Awful tyres wouldn't recommend them anywhere other than the middle east.

...AliB, you are right about ZZ1s being sensitive to tyre pressures...can make a big difference.
However, on dry roads i have had few problems...not good but not bad. The problem is they are so unpredictable in damp conditions. I would rather drive with them in very wet conditions then damp ones....in the damp it's like driving on ice. Great if you like sideways driving, which i have done on two occasions :O
I spoke to a tyre fitter on saturday and he too had heard some bad stories about ZZ1s especially on Cosworths. The problem he said was that the tyres are too hard....and this is i presume also why no matter how ruthless you are on them, they don't seem to ever wear out. I have put 10k miles on mine and they are as good as new...i don't know how long the previous owner had had them on.
Im still thinking of having some 17s fitted to my classic and was offered a set of 215/45/17 ZZ3s by the above fitter at £40 a corner (as new...just done a few miles). Everyone seems to say ZZ3s are a world apart from ZZ1s.
