Everyone is looking in the direction of the wall....

They cant see through the wall. It's solid....

ie. The guy on the left can only see the wall, as can the other side of it.

Each man is trying to work out what colour hat he has on, and only knows that there are 4 guys - with two black hats and two white hats between them...

One man works out what he is wearing and declares "I'm wearing a black/white hat!".... Which man is it, and what does he say????

Third from left knows he has a black hat as he can see 2 people with white hats.

You needed to include the bit about them having a minute to say it, and the guy calling out near the end, otherwise the logic doesn't really work.

b.t.w. the answer above is the right bloke, but the wrong reason - he's facing the wall, so can't see the bloke behind him.

eh, explain please :confused:

The bloke 3rd from left realises that the bloke behind him (4th from left) hasn't shouted out what hat he is wearing within the minute time period. He realises that as no.4 cant tell what he is wearing then numbers 2 and 3 must be wearing different hats. Number 3 can see number 2 is wearing a white hat and so knows he is wearing a black hat! :D
