Oh yes. Can be 'tweaked' (by subtle use of some circlips on appropriate hoses ;) to around 230 bhp. Rampant torquesteer, but on a straight you should have no trouble keeping up with a Scoob. If you get walnut and leather that's a bonus too.

Best ones are the 900T16S, the Carlsson and the very last Rubies. Prior to 1991 (IIRC) they had the big Garrett turbo (T34 I think) and post that they had a smaller Mitsubishi unit. Apparently one of the reasons they changed is because Garrett wouldn't let them stamp 'SAAB' on the turbo itself.

It looks big and heavy, but at around 1225-1230kg it's actually lighter than a classic Scoob :eek:

And not as ugly ;)

you'll struggle to pick up a good one for less than £1k, I know I looked for ages. (unless you find grandad with one tucked away, having owned from new and thinks its an old car)

I ended up getting GM900SE turbo (1994-1998) - much smoother and more reliable car, and now about same prices as the older classics.

the older (pre 1993) models are getting a bit of a classic - and prices for good ones steadily going up. (especially 16v's and carlsons, aeros etc. these are fetching 3k+ for good ones.)

friend has just sold 1985 'B' reg 900 turbo (basic model) convertible - £5500

My Dad had a 1990H Carlsson, he got it when 40k old & added a further 260k to that!!! When he sold it it was still on the original turbo, gearbox, clutch etc!! & they still showed no signs of wear & still went pretty damn well & was lovely & comfortable. He drove it hard btw but always let it get up to temperature before flooring it & let it cool down for a minute or two before turning the engine off.

Only thing is when it did need parts replacing they weren't fookin cheap by a LONG way!!

The T16s and Carlsson are the sought after ones, as Carl said, though decent Carlssons will be circa £4k plus :eek: I would have thought you could get a decent early T16s for around a grand. Servicing and Parts need not be so expensive due to the proliferation(sp?) of Saab Specialists and Online Parts specialists (eg. www.elkparts.co.uk, www.eurocarparts.com etc) You'll probably find that the older "classic" shaped 900's will fetch more than early New Generation 900's that came out in 1994. Certainly I'd far rather have a c900 T16s than any of the NG900's.

still don't think you'll get a good T16 for £1k - but if you do do - well done & enjoy.
I personally think you'll need nearer £2-4k depending on model and condition.

unless you really love the classic shape (and I do) and like driving the classic (which I dont) - then the later NG900 turbos are much better.
(newer - so less wear, smoother, cheaper to buy a good one, and parts as said above not too expensive from independant sources)
