Hi Guys,

Just a quick question,
If a car is running std catalysts, would it make a difference if the map is left in either closed loop or open loop??? If its left in the wrong position, could it possibly cause harm to the engine?

so wouldnt it cause any terminal engine damage if it has been driven hard?

If the engine is tuned appropriately, no.

There will be increased back pressure which will have various effects. Decatting a setup that was tuned to the edge with cats in place may be damaging though.

It will depend on the fueling and what afr its set to, also what type of closed loop, its bias, range and so on, its possible to kill a cat on closed loop if its set to run stoich at higher cruise revs as egt rises dramatically. On that basis a well mapped open loop setup would be safer for it. I have known cat's disintegrate during mapping sessions (sports cats at that) due to the higher egt's generated from running higher boost and more aggresive timing.

Clarify the question please; I wouldn't want any car I had mapped with a high flow sports cat to have the standard cat'ed d/p refitted and caned around a track :)
