As title..
I've bought a VF34 for my uk turbo.

Does anyone know if i'm going to encounter any problems in fitting ?
Or..has anyone done this conversion before ?

Thanks a lot.
Johnny

well I've just put a VF35 on a MY98 which should be the same.
The only snag was the oil return pipe underneath wasn't on the new turbo & the old one didn't fit, Subaru don't list them & it was £40 odd for a 2" pipe!
Other than that straight swap dead easy.
Mark

Oh & get new gaskets for uppipe & downpipe from Subaru.

Nice one Johnny - Christmas present for the car :-)
I assume you will have to have a re-map to get the most out of it.
Where do you plan on going for the remap?
I'm considering getting a TEKII fitted by Wallce in Aberdeen.
Cheers
Kenny

You'll need to get an ECU mapped to this turbo, for safety as much as performance's sake. The VF34/35 flows considerably better and delivers a cooler (and hence denser) charge than the TD04 and so the standard ECU would probably underfuel.

You may be able to get a reasonably workable solution with a Dawes, but AFR meter and KnockLink would be necessities. If you want to take full advantage of the turbo, a remap would be a certainty, and you may also be talking fuel pump/injectors, maybe intercooler too.

If you're talking about remapping an MY98 Kenny, a TeK isn't an option as these start from MY99 onwards.

Hi Mark.
Thats great. Thanks for that info. :)
Not sure if the 34 + 35 are similar ??
I'll have a look around and see what i can dig up.

I was told that it may be a pain to fit...thats why i'm posting to find out.

All the pipes etc are on the turbo, so in that case it'll hopefully be a fairly uncomplicated swap. (yeah right) ;)

I'll make sure i get new gaskets too. Thanks. :)

Kenny...just been past your hoose mate..seen the scoob sitting outside.

The car will be getting a remap to suit, as i've bought a gems ecu for it, so will be getting Steve Simpson to map it.
Few other things going on too.

fmic, 550's etc....
So xmas has come eraly for the scoob. :D

Also ordered a Walboro pump and a new fuel reg from Lateral Performance.

And..as i said above, am getting the gems done just after.

Thanks for your reply mate. :)

Greasemonkey, thanks for the warning - I've got a MY00 - so I'll be fine fitting a tek II :-)

Johnny, car's off the road just now till I get a MOT, service and new brake pads - too much fun at knockhill this year :-) Where are you getting all your work done or is your mate doing it?

Johnny50 13 December 2003 07:54 PM

Hey Kenny.

Aye, at the moment, Chris at Linton Services will be doing all the work. (except ecu).

I'm hoping to get it all done mid-january. :D

Then i'll see if i can catch ya at Knockhill. :)
