Thread title says it all, really - except I've done a day's course in a Scoob and I'd like something different...

Still a Scoob (absolutely essential - and not mine!), but instead of tear-assing around a track being told the lines, braking points etc (fun though that is), I still have no real idea of the handling limits of my beloved beast.

And I don't want to find out on the open road with a 10 ton truck coming the other way...

Sooo...I want/need educating on a wet track on a nice wide play area with the car going out of control at (reasonably) sensible speeds with a nice man sitting beside me trying to explain what I should be doing instead of c******g myself.

But where, oh where is there such a place? Can any of you well rounded and equally well adjusted Scoobyites point me in the right direction (preferably oop North)?

No idea where to do it but it sounds like what you need is the handling course on a disused runway, marked out with cones, no gravel traps or armco barriers to run into, just acres of fields.
Have seen it on Top Gear and Driven etc etc over the years, I'm sure someone will know where to do this.

It does Impreza bits on track, though sounds similar to what you have done before. You can combine this with gravel driving, but not in a Scooby. It's also in Doncaster, so fairly close.

Someone was recommending this a couple of weeks ago - I saw it coz I'm looking for a similar Xmas pressie :D

I'm tempted to the Drive and Survive all day RallyPro course, although this doesn't use Scoobys. http://www.driveandsurvive.com/

http://www.donpalmer.co.uk/ is the man check out his site & all will be revealed in a coaching over lesson "you will do this" type way i am going to use him to learn limits of new car ;) in January he may not be the cheapest but as with scoob you soon learn cheapest aint the best!!!!:D

Yeah i'm planning on doing Don Palmer day in early Jan to learn my new cars limits ;) i believe it's £395 each for the day at Bruntingthorpe for 3 people/cars. He can do more people but wood need to get an additional tutor & i'd prefer to keep it a 1 on 1 with Don :D
Skid pan does sound fun it was sumin i saw the local IAM (institue of advanced motorist) group had done for their members which was/is an additional tempting reason to join but i'd be very interested in doing one of these anyway, be nice not to kill a set of tyres on a non grippy surface :eek:

yeah, DP looks a good bet - think I'll do the same, although £395 and using your own car ain't cheap.

i did also have an eliment of sceptisism when i herd price etc but i haven't heard a bad word said against the course, unlike some others ;)
I did have sum chap email me when i'd inquired on scoobynet a while back which i'll post if i can find it but in the mean time an excellent review on this thread

PS my current theory is to go in the week tue-thurs either in w/c 5/1/04 or 12/1/04 depends on exactly when/if i can get my car really :D I already have another willing victim so currently looking for 3rd person to join in if you fancied it?

I did a course with Don a couple of years ago (called Wetter the Better at MIRA), and he is a very good teacher. Well worth every penny. And the best performace upgrade you can get :)

Better still I got to drive a TVR Cerbera sideways :D

Must organise another course for the new car as its nothing like a MY99.
