I am having my Block honed to give greater clearance purely because of this...

Maybe it's meant to run without piston rings for better sealing and oil control ;)

John, It's gotta be a typo !! we set our clearance at 001" as the Subaru factory finish [ generally accepted as .0008" ] is nearly impossible to replicate with general market type machinery.

Most important is the issue fo whether the bore is circular, tapered or barrel shaped or the opposite. A lot of honing machines get themselves in a tangle when they get down around the gudgeon pin hole and strange shapes start to occur.

Just make sure you have at least .0008" and it'll be OK with careful running in.
