Hi All
Just curious
Can the PPP'd ECU of an MY01 be remapped? Would it be worth it?

Just thinking out loud. :) If I WAS to get the cats removed...

How old is the PPP? Is it the original type or the latest type that they also fit to MY02/03?

A friend that had PPP on a MY00 UK turbo had it EcuTek'd with no probs.

So, I think is possible.

Yes. However, carrying out any further modification on your car would instantly invalidate the warranty, and revoke its PPP status, thus dropping its potential value when you come to resell, things that may be worth bearing in mind.

If your only planned modification is a complete decat, there's little point paying in advance for a TeK unless you want to do it for other reasons.

If you monitor boost and knock closely both before and after the decat, you may find that you can get away without needing to remap. You may need to fit an actuator restrictor with a slightly larger bore, but that's a darn sight cheaper than the alternative. If that doesn't reign it in, a proper remap around the decatted exhaust will likely produce even better performance, so at least the money wouldn't be wasted.

It would have been better (and cheaper) to sell the PPP ecu & buy a standard one to remap ;)

You could px your PPP ECU for a standard one, which would help contribute to the re-map ;)

People are always on the lookout for these

It's a 2001 registered UK300 MY01 ECU
I thought MY02 were the same and MY03 was different?

Yeah but I believe that the original PPP for the MY01/02 had a piggy back ecu attached but now if you get a PPP for an MY01/02/03 you get the remap of your existing ecu giving you 261bhp rather than the original PPP figure of 245bhp :)

but the powers only different higher up apparently... like that makes me (PPP MY01 owner) any happier.

Can you TEK3 a PPP?

This was the reply from PRODRIVE

It is possible to remap your ECU, the parts we fit to your ECU were mapped by us in the first place to suit the specification of exhaust we fit. We don't offer a remapping service to suit other specifications such as de-cat (which would make the car illegal anyway) or other different exhaust parts such as non-approved silencers.

The later specification of ECU allows us to run slightly more boost at higher rpm, hence the improvement in power output, however this increase is really only apparent around peak power so in the real world the car is not significantly quicker. One negative aspect is that it would be less tolerant to having other exhaust parts changed.

Regards
All the best
Pete
