Never owned a game machine before, which of the above is my best bet?

Does it depend what sort of games I like (only really played games on PC) or are there other things I should consider?

Mainly down to the type of games you like to play.

you can mod the Xbox pretty easily so it can do a whole host of extra things (do a search on here cause it's been discussed before). Both consoles have their own killer games.

Getting an xbox for chrimbo.

For me the choice was down to PS2 - use old PS1 games vs XBox - Mod and use as MP3/DivX player.

I expect to use the Xbox for more non-gaming things than games.

x box kicks booty, had both no comparison.

had a ps2 and the laser fecked up on it 3 times:( got an xbox and ive had no problems at all, plus all the better games are going to go on the xbox. Domm3 is due shortly;)

to name but three, there have just been a raft of good games in the run up to chrimbo and with Live games getting better all the time (ps2 network play ??? Beta STILL) I think it's just a matter of time before the main player in the UK will be Xbox. Don't get me wrong I own all three of this generation's consoles and there are games on all machines that are stand out must have's.
But the Xbox will win in the end :D Better Res, Killer games in the next 6 months , Live geting better and better and chipp it and it's Fantastic.

Xbox wont get either Gran Turismo 4 or Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas next year.

PS2 is worth buying for those games alone :)

What about manx TT, I was gonna buy a ps2 just for this game, but is it going to be available on Xbox?

Word on the grapevine is Doom3 won't be able to run on the PS2, but the XBox will manage it.

San Andreas will be exclusive to PS2 at first. Due Q4 2004.

I would buy an Xbox as well as my PS2 if they were smaller - they are SO big it wouldnt fit in with my other bits under the TV.

Biggest gripe with xbox over ps2 is it's uncomfortable controllers. Gives me cramp v quickly.

Is probably cos I've got mutant hands though :D

Having had both, and given the choice again, I wouldn't buy a ps2 over an xbox.

IMHO the xbox controllers are much better than the PS2 ones, fit my hands much better than those tiny cramped PS2 things.

Same here, and there are loads of Xbox controllers now including smaller ones.

I prefer to use the smaller X-Box controller any day. But I have adaptors to use the PS2 pads for my mates too :rolleyes:

i actually quite like the big xbox pads as they fit nicely and fill ya hands (something to grab hold of) wheras the ps2 pads make my hands cramp up

I prefer the controller on the PS2. The choice of games for my personal taste is better too :D For Jon I would advise PS2 for games like GT3 & when it arrives GT4 so that he won't have to leave his comfy armchair to do a trackday :D:D:D
