As mentioned above, type your number into http://www.bt.com/broadband/.

If your exchange is not yet enabled. Have a look on www.adslguide.org.uk and their message boards for help with setting up a campaign.

I was one of the first to create a campaign site, and we got Broadband with 6 months (http://www.getedenbridgeadsl.co.uk). In fact I got two! One from BT and another wireless provider.

I feel for you... currentloy trying to get one of our offices linked up, but BT have set the trigger point for the exchange at 350 [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

The only other options are ISDN (slow and expensive) or leased line (fast and VERY expesive)

I told BT that, for the cost of their slowest leased line, I could afford to pay 350 people a tenner each to vote to get their cr@ppy exchange upgraded.

They then took great glee in telling me "of course once the threshold is reached we can't guarantee *when* the it will actually get upgraded" :rolleyes:

I am just glad that Portishead upgraded their exchange 3 weeks before I moved in.... I must have been virtually the first person on ADSL at our exchange. Also, most of the people here are old fogies who have never heard of the internet so I should be getting a good contention ratio :D

same here , they need 350 , which is ridiculous in a town of 2000 people , and so far only 46 have registered. we have got no fu**ing hope !!

I'm connected to an exchange in a village with just 1100 lines in the exchange.

A target of 300 registrations was set on the 17 November when there were about 80 existing registrations. Thanks to some hard work and a campaign supported by the council the 300 target was hit last night. :D :D

Find out if there is a campaign for your exchange underway and start to spread the news to neigbours/friends and relatives.

but when are BT actually going to do the upgrade work? That is the key!

yeah just call BT and ask them to check your number for broadband availability. I know how you feel as I myself have been on 56K dial up since god knows when 1997 (I live in the stix). However due to a recent line upgrade everything is sweet and I've been on broadband for about 6 months months and I'm lovin' it ;)

ajm - the ready for service date is likely to be around end march/start of April going on recent RFS dates.

As long as they announce when it will be before Xmas then I'll be a happy bunny.

Given the size of the exchange I didn't hold out any hope of getting a target set and even then i doubted that enough people would be interested enough to register - but the target was set and as soon as it was the registrations flooded in :D

awwww gettin excited now, are pipex any good? thgere 512 kps service is 23 quid a month, so i can ditch me 16 quid a month crappy aol and pay 7 quid more for 10 times faster connection!!

well just ordered with pipex, 70 odd quid a quarter for 512kbps, so lets hope they dont email me saying cant do it as i cant wait to call aohell and tell them to stick it up there backside

apples - yes it does sometimes happen like that, pipex will have the line tested to ensure it supports ADSL - fingers crossed huh

A workmate phoned AOL and was told "no, you can't have broadband". I overheard him chatting about it in the office, we checked his number with BT and found he could have it.

Seems there may be something afoot with AOL and broadband, I suspect there is more profit in it for them if they keep you on dial-up.

I had problems with BT earlier in the year. I applied for Pipex bb, BT came round to do a line test while I was on holiday, they needed to gain access to the house to test my line (engineer said this to my neighbour). When I returned home from hols Pipex had been told by BT that bb wasn't available to me, no test had been carried out :( Problem with BT was that nobody could explain why I couldn't have it, really annoyed as my next door neighbour has bb and he lives further fronm the post to me.

In the end got on BT's extended reach trial through Pipex, happy now :)
