^ ^ ^ ^ ^

I get circa 253mb/min throughput.. and backups fail to finish..

Ive also had the following in the event log.. (not at the same time)

Application popup: Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\HarddiskVolume23\$Mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

How do I find volume23?? No drives are showing errors.. the array appears healthy.. and ACU shows nothing.. neither does secure path etc..

ideas??

I may have to try a reboot.. :o on a cluster

Check the state of your FC HBAs on the server. Are you using multipathing ? If so, if you have one flaky HBA it shouldnt make a difference. If not then you could have a flaky HBA causing problems.

Check your SAN (dunno if Compaq/HP use Brocade/Macdata/Gadzoox/whatever) switches, but use the tools (command line or web based) to check the health of the SAN. Could throw up a cable or HBA error.

I guess youve checked the media, drive for errors. Theres not alot to check on the FC/SCSI bridges (we used ADIC/IBM badged ones), again the config tools via the serial port is a start.

Once you have established the hardware is good, then you know where you stand.

Edit - do backups go over the SAN direct, or via a storage node over the LAN ?

backup via a node..

fairly sure the HBA's are Ok.. I may manually fail them over mid backup..

cough

Have you looked for network problems ? Try the switch logs and see if theres a clue in the times in there.

David_Wallis 07 December 2003 11:40 AM

Nothing both FC switches look fine and dont have anything showing in them..

Im going into work tonight so may rebooting everything including the switches.

Rebooting the cluster is a good idea as on boot the server will display any disk failures or problem which is what I believe it is

Is the quorum resource on a separate disk to the other data volumes , if not it should be.

Cheers

my insight server has died so rebuilding that...

However,

it seems that I may have to power the MSL up, then The MDR then the san nodes...

I think its a disk failure too.. :o

I am doing it a 22:00 tonight..

trying to find information on configuring the MDR etc... and not finding much..
