Does a JDM car with digital mileometer, (STi 8/9) that has been de-limited and converted to miles per hour on the speedometer. Clock up in Miles or still in Kilometers?

I.E if the car completed 7000km in Japan before being imported and converted, to mph. Does the mileometer still read 7000 and continue to clock up in KM's or does it now read 4300 Miles and clock up in miles after the conversion.

Still confused myself after reading that

Thanks

Nathan..

The way conversions are normally done, it would still read 7000, but would count in miles from that point onward.

In other words, if it did 7000km in Japan, came over here, got converted, and did 7000 miles (i.e. 11200km) here, the odometer would read 14,000, not 18,200.

Make sense? ;)

When mine was done the KM's were converted to miles, and now reads in miles and MPH.

e.g imported with 50,000 km - converted to miles - picked car up with 32,000 miles on the clock

(Kilometres to Miles may be wrong - I have tried to remeber them:rolleyes:)

Grease Monkey, makes perfect sense mate. Clear as mud ;)

I was hoping it might be as Scooby Drew says his car was done.

I suppose I could try and find a mileage correction type place to reset the mileage to the Miles equivalent?

Anyone else?

The way it's normally done Nathan, a widget is placed in between the gearbox output and the speedometer which simply divides the pulse rate by 1.6 to perform the conversion.

The new age cars may have an OBDII compatible odometer, which may enable direct conversion between kilometres and miles, or if not simply allow the odo reading to be adjusted as you're asking. The only way to find out what the score is would be to have a word with the people who actually do the conversions.

when mine was converted they took photos before and after the conversion, and re adjusted the mileage to show the mileage in miles not km plus miles

if you know what i mean

Yep got all that.

Thanks for the replies. :)

So IF I buy a car with KM mileage on it can anyone recommend someone to correct it to its Miles equivalent for me?

Thanks

Nathan..

"IF" :D

I can direct you to someone in Bristol who will "recalibrate" the KM's to what it would be in miles...yes and then accrue and read in mph.

Tim

G. "IF" :p ;)

Tim

Cheers, depending on my finances I may take you up on that :)
