I'm falling over remote controls and fancy a universal programmable one! :)

The thing I don't like about the all-in-one type ones is that you are limited to what the button acutally says, so rather than form a code for each of the functions, I want to be able to reprogram what the button displays (Is that possible?)

Ideally I want one with desktop charger and configurable with a PC! :)

I need it to replace my six remotes!! :eek:

Is the Philips Pronto one of the better ones on the market? Any experience with a Pronto or similar?

Where can I get one cheaply? Or anyone selling theirs?

I had a Pronto in the UK and loved it, I've now got the Pronto Next Gen TSU3000.

think it's what you want, totally programmable, has a desktop charger, and you can plug either the charger or the pronto itself into your PC via USB and customise it. The site mentioned above has very detailed info on it, so have a peek (http://www.remotecentral.com/tsu3000/index.html) and links to downloads for peoples' themes, so you can se what others do.

I've got one the the 2MB modles without the docking station that I have hardley used. I'm open to sensible offers.

I can highly recommend Philips Pronto, I owned one of the early versions for 3-4 years now. Lots of info on Remote Central.

My main complaint with the LCD remote is the lack of tactile feedback (I end up using the Sky remote for browsing channels). They have addressed this on the latest Prontos, by adding more 'hard' buttons.

I've not actually programmed mine yet, well, I mean custom interface, as I have a macintosh, as the software is not mac compatible, yet :( a real bummer actually.

I spotted one the iPronto for a mere £1,395!!!! :eek:

It does all the functions of a normal Pronto as well as have a lot of the functionality of a laptop, including a wireless card in it! Surf the web, while selecting TV channels! :)

Its the SBC-RU940 Pronto 2mb Touch Screen Remote Control. It comes in the box with a cable to connect it to a PC and a CD-ROM with the software. Also get manual etc.

Will include some batteries as well

Maplin's have one I think is very much the same as this for £30 (half price).

I'm thinking of getting one but I'm not spending Pronto type money :eek:

Any of these fellas work with IR Da frequency Telewest type Digi Cable boxes?

Saw something called Kameleon - looked good but not convinced it will work with the cable box; neither were the sales team. Such uncertainties ;)

Drowning in remotes!

I've had both the one from Maplins and a Pronto...

The pronto is great, but you need to be prepared to spend some (a lot of) time with it getting it programmed up. As others have said Remotecentral is a great web site for this.

The maplins remote is great for the money, but labelling the buttons is limited and annoying - you need a good memory to remember what you programmed it to do.

The biggest problem with both is that you need to look at them to use them as there is very little in the way of tactile feedback. This ultimately annoyed me too much so I'm back to half a dozen remotes and I'm looking to buy a remote with just hard buttons - the Home Theatre Master MX-500 seems to be highly recommended.

It's probably the same problem I had with my Telewest cable TV.

I have a Tivo as well, and I couldn't get the Tivo to send the signal to the cable box. I ended up calling Tivo, who said I needed an additional box (£30 IIRC) and sat between the Tivo and the IR senders.

Pluged it in and it worked a treat! :)

Get the 2meg Pronto most excellent.Had mine for 2 years now and just the best thing I have ever bought.Has a very high girlfriend/future wife ;) acceptance factor if you program in the macros(look on remotecentral for ideas and ccf files).Took a little bit of fiddling but if I can do it sure you can.

BTW you can dload the programming software from remotecentral and it has an emulator so get stuck in.

Another huge pronto fan :D

Just the 1Mb B&W version. I have bitmap icons for all the sky channels and it all fits with plenty to spare. the only time youd need more memory is if you have icons for 300+Cds in a changer or the like.

I've had mine for about 3 years now. I spent some time when i first bought it (you must be prepared to psend some time "tinkering") but since then only spend a few mins every now and again updating it. (adding sky channels etc.)

Even my wife loves it :D

Might be a good time to cut my losses and go for a SKY+ and a Pronto... And then there's Xmas ;)

Damnit though; it's just that the SKY EPG is so bad - gives no detail on later progs, only the current one that you are ALREADY WATCHING. Hard to plan viewing based on a prog title only... Telewest sorts this nicely (even if 'page 2' of the detail is mostly corrupt/missing!).

I thought that by pressing I(info) when you've selected a program on the EPG told you more about it?

You can use your PDA as one. Do a Google search for NetRemote

I have one of the earlier Pronto's gathering dust :) I spend ages programming it, good fun, even with the channel logos etc, macros, you name it. Then novelty wore off, so I guess mileage does vary.

I'm the kind of couch potato that only has just enough energy to use one hand... impossible to do that with the Pronto, you really need two hands to handle it.

Chris, what you describe is what you can do for more prog detail on Telewest, but doing the same on my dad’s Sky (not SKY+) gives only info on current on air programme – not the later prog/different channel you are looking at in the EPG…

Bit late here, but I've had my Marantz RC5000 (same as the pronto) for about 3/4 years now & it's fantastic ! There's a great ccf file for the TiVo on remote central that's even easier to use than the peanut as it comes already set up with makro jumps !

It's good to hear that there are templates for the Tivo, or at the very least it sounds like someone else has a Tivo and the remote! :D
