Getting a PS2 at christmas, so can't look at it now.

Hoping to connect to a telly that is about 10 years old, i.e. no SCART sockets. Have seen that PS2 requires red and white video sockets? This telly has yellow and white sockets labelled 'Audio' and 'Video'. Will I be able to connect the PS2 through these, do I need an adaptor of some sort, or do I need to get a new telly as well, aaaargh the expense:(

Any advice (other than buy an X-box instead) welcomed.

You could use either the RF (Ariel) socket with the correct lead:

Or you can use the Yellow (Composite) and White (Mono Phono Audio) socket, again with the correct lead:

Your TV must be mono only, so just use either the red or white for single channel sound (and of course the yellow for video). Or you could get a convertor to connect twin stereo phonos to a single mono phono. Should only be a quid or two at Maplins or similar.

Could be that your TV Video socket is S-Video though too. Any pics of the sockets ?

Thanks for the prompt reply. By mono you mean sound rather than monochrome (B&W) ? We can live with that.

The sockets would be compatible with the plugs shown above. Are these leads included in the basic package or do I have to purchase separately? Is the USB type connector a standard plug or is it unique to the PS2? i.e do I need PS2 specific leads?

I believe you get this one as standard (maybe someone can confirm ?):

Yes, by mono I mean sound. White is the left channel and red is the right channel :) The plug on the other end is specific to the Playstation 1 & 2.

Dunk is correct... that is the cable you get as standard...

:D

Cool, thanks Mogsi. Looks like you'll be fine on Christmas day to hook up your PS2 :)

Do I get to say you should have bought an X-Box now ? :D :p
