Right, I did something very silly on Friday, and fell off a ladder, I bashed my leg pretty heavily, but clearly not busted, a nice big lump appeared very quickly, about four inches below the knee, my leg from there down has now swollen, right down to my ankle, I went to the docs this afternoon, but forgot to ask if it's normal for the swelling to be a bit like plastacine (sp) in that if I press my finger into it, I get a dent! that takes a bit of rubbing, ot a few moment to dissapear, sounds wierd I know.
My reason for this concern is that my dad had exactly the same thing happen, and a few weeks later he was diagnosed with a form of Leukhemia and has since died, so, am I gona die or what??
I not panicing or anything, and if it doens't get better i'll clearly go to the docs again, but an idea would be good.

You need to go back to your doctor and ask these questions. No sane GP would give you a diagnosis on a BBS. As for self read medical experts.....

Don't worry. It sounds like normal fluid build-up associated with the swelling. It is the fluid that makes it "plasticiny".

However, as someone else said, if you are at all concerned, or the swelling does get worse (or not better), check with your GP. I don't think you need worry connecting it with your father's illness.

Thanks Imlach, it was a slight concern really, if I thought it were life threatening, I'd clearly go to the doc, and, liek I said, if it don't get better I will!!
Cheers.

Ron, the message is clear. Don't listen to anyone on here.

Definitely contact your GP. You *may* have a small fragment of bone floating about.

Or it may just be fluid build up, as suggested. A similar sort of thing happened when I fell over and damaged my ankle. As soon as I stood up, it ballooned to well over twice its size with fluid. Had X-Rays and everything at the hospital, but nothing broken / fractured.

So - contact your GP and leep your leg elevated.

You may have cellulitis which is an infection of the basal layer of the skin, I had it 7 years ago and it was exactly as you describe, although mine arose from a scratch on my leg. If it is cellulitis you will feel like you have a temperature and generally feel ****. I don't want to alarm you but I had to spend 4 days in hospital on IV antibiotics. Also you need treatment quickly if it is cellulitis as it can get into your joints and that can lead to amputation. I know I sound alarmist but cellulitis is pretty serious and you need to get it treated if that is what it is. By the way I am not a gp but do do medical research for a living so have a greater than average knowledge of medical matters.

Speak with a prefessional and do not self-diagnose or
SN-diagnose !!

I had a lot of swelling like you describe when ½ a 2 x 2 paving slab fell on my leg just below the calf on the inside. I just kept putting ice-packs on it to bring the swelling down. Once it subsided, from the injury site down, all the bruising then came out, right down to my toes - I was black and blue.

stick a big needle in it.

...just go to the blimmin docs or hospical n it'l all be fine probably fluid as someone else said, or maybe some kind of tropical bug breeding under your skin?
