'The British Piano Smashing Championships have been organised by Russ Bradley and myself and are being held at The Three Counties Showground Malvern Worcestershire on Saturday 29th November 2003, starting at 12 noon.

This event is being held in aid of the charity Children with Leukaemia and will include an evening concert and a Hercules Hold record attempt.

The event is being supported by Cranes Music (the pianos), Family Cars (Jeeps for the Hercules Hold) and Casio (yes - the keyboard people!!!), as well as Three Counties who supplied the venue free of charge.

We have quite a few athletes confirmed ( including the British Lumberjack Champion ) but still have room for some more, we have lots of pianos!!

Dad said he helped destroy a piano once, I think an upright. At one point everyone was trying to break one particular batten when dad suddenly realised that, if they did, the tension of the springs would bring the soundboard up to the frame with alarming rapidity - and two guys' heads were in that gap as they tried to break it.

Sounds like a bit of a laugh - are there any more details available anywhere? I'd love to come along and get a few photos, but it's a long way to come without knowing it's a big enough event to be worthwhile.

Any idea how many entries - or how many pianos? :)
