Sad, but due to sawdust from building work, I need to buy a vacuum cleaner TODAY.

Seach on here has reveleaed dysons are crap but I like having no bag.

My house is pretty much all carpet.

I don't have a pet.

if I were to go for a dyson, which one, there are so many and I don't understand the difference between upright and cylinder, is it just a weight thing?

Its a town house so there will be a stairs to schlap it up and down.

Would appreciate some guidance.

I have a purple DC05 (wish it was a DC5 :() which is the pull along one and it works great. It also sits nicely on stairs. Decided against the upright as it's easier with hard floors and getting into tight spots.

IMHO suction is excellent as is the build quality. Too early to tell how long it will last but probably won't last 10 years like the old Panasonic.

Great hoovers although it can be a little worrying to see how much rubbish comes up from the carpet if you forget to hoover for a couple of *cough*months*cough*.

The newer ones are meant to be more effective but until the thing dies I won't be replacing it. When it finally comes to replacing it another Dyson will be mine.

My old dear is a hoover maniac (i.e. she hoovers the entire house once a day). Shes had two dysons and says never buy one as they dont last and the whole thing about no bag means no blockages is utter cr*p.

She now has a £900 kirby which is an industrial cleaner but thats an overkill. Her backup hoover is a henry (about £90 from argos) which is an excellent cleaner for the money and very sturdy. I have one and you do get a lot for your money.

I bought a dc08 (i think?) despite the fact that most people on here said they are sh*te. gotta say i'm quite pleased with it so far. it is a bit difficult to get cement and plaster dust out of the turbine thingy, but i have found that sticking a brush up it seems to dislodge most of it. and why am i in chrage of emptying the fookin hovver in any case? :confused:

There is a section called "which Dyson" and it will suggest according to you requirements which ones may be suitable for you.

Dysons the only thing we've found that'll easily lift cat/dog hairs from carpet. Had Dysons for years - no problems.

Always use Miele stuff - washers, driers, vacs etc. Utter reliability.......

I wish someone would just tell me which to buy :(

Got me mum-in-law one of the 8 cyclone efforts for a ton.

I had th option of Miele or Dyson... Miele was cheaper due to having access to their staff shop and I still got a Dyson.

6 years and the Dyson is still going strong. Miele was rejected for the weight of it, to make it useful you needed expensive addon and I just hated the look of them.

Adam get the DC07, DC08 or DC11 (8,8 and 12 cyclones! ;))

but lower wattage,

1400 versus 2100

got a DC05 (and a DC5 civictyper :p), too many carpets and two too many cats! Never had a problem with it yet!

Henry's are very good, cheap and efficient and very tough and you can use them with or without the bag, plus you get the benefit of his sweet little smiley face looking up at you as you vacuum ;) We've had one for about 10 years and it's still going strong, been used inside after decorating/small building work, outside, in the car, store rooms etc etc.

Much used and abused but still sucking as good as it did when new :)

Probably want an upright if you are dealing with carpets mate...we got a DC09 and it's very good.
God what a glamourous life we performance car owners must lead, here we are talking about vacuum cleaners LOL

Just to add, you get a mahoosively long lead and nozzle with a Henry, ideal for stairs in a townhouse (I know I live in one) 'cos you can leave it at the top or bottom whilst you vacuum and don't have to worry about taking your life in your hands whilst balancing precariously with the cleaner in one hand and nozzle in the other :D

My poor DC03 standard was leading edge when I got it... silver are yellow seems so old now! ;)

I'm on my second VAX, and the old one is still going strong after 15 years in the property we are doing up in France.

I'm SERIOUSLY hard on hoovers, sucking up any kind of crap from broken glass to brick rubble. The VAX never flinches.
I bought a cloth bag for each, and they do the business.
You can use 'em for wet spills too, and to wash carpets/upholstery.

All this stuff about Dysons never losing their suck.......just hype: they start with less suck anyway. So long as you keep the bag on a good hoover under half empty, it'll out-suck a Dyson any day!

thats my point, their motor wattage is 2/3rds that of other makes.

I cannot believe anyone would ever want to buy a Dyson. They are poo. Miele or sebo etc walk all over them. Dysons are palstic designer krap. A henry will be much better and last longer.

Bit bigger than Henry (may have bigger motor, not sure) and it has been superb for ?5 years.

I work in construction and the professional cleaners who come in to turn a complete s**thole into a sparkling completed building normally use Henrys/Edwards. Simplest and best
