Well now I know!
My car has been off the road this week due to a boost problem.
I have just taken my turbo of and there are two big chunks out of the compressor blades this now leaves with more questions.
The car is a MY97 WRX with 13,000 miles on it.
What’s the most common cause for this kind of failure?
When I had the car it had some Japanese performance air filter in it, when I replaced it with an ITG filter the car was noticeably slower. From this I presumed that the ITG restricted the airflow more and gave better protection. Could this poor Japanese filter have weakened or damaged the blades for them to fail last week?
Before I took the turbo off the car ran OK there was just no boost. What are the chances of the bit of blade damaging anything else, like valves etc.
The turbo that failed was a IHI VF22,the one I have just got to replace it has apparently come of a 97 WRX, but this is not a IHI. All it has got on the side is what looks like serial Numbers with a bit TDO4L. Is it of a WRX? or wil I have problems with it.

Thanks in advance
