Create an account on the XP box with the name/password of the laptop account. By default XP requires all remote users to have a password.

Make sure you have shared the drive/folders you want to share.

I'd also change the Network Access in Local Security Policies so that local users authenticate as themselves.

The link, on the XP box create a user account with the same username and password as the laptop. Also, the folders or drives that you wish to share have to have the share enabled on them. The easiest way to do this is right click on the drive/foler and click on the 'sharing and security' option. Set up the share and you shoul dthen be able to access it form the laptop.
