OK, there are a few dual carriageways where I live that end up going into one single lane...

What confuses me is the signs used to identify this...

or this:

Now surely if my highway code is right...this means that one lane or both lanes narrow, to me that would suggest that the road is still a dual carriageway. But on the roads I've seen the signs used it isn't the case.

Surely this sign would be the correct one:

Anyone care to suggest why the first two are used instead, and weather it is incorrect. And the potential confusion or even accident that may be caused by a driver who may think the road continues as a dual carriage when it doesn't?

My guess is that the plebs at the council have no idea about the highway code.

the second sign, fair enough, it does look kinda like the last one, but it's still incorrect.

Would be interesting to see what would happen if an accident occured and it was due to incorrect signage, the council would be at fault, but to be honest, I don't think much would come of it, I think there are usually some other forms of markings on th road indicating the end of a dual carrigeway. Sods law said you'd get done for driving without due care and attention, and if you were in a scoob they would no doubt claim you'd have been driving to fast.

The first sign shows 'road narrows on right' - the second, 'road narrows on both sides'.
Each of these signs can be used if the dual carriageway reduces to 1 lane before becoming a two-way road.
I guess there should be a 2-way traffic double arrows to follow-up the 'road narrows' sign to confirm the end of the dual carriageway.
