SHortly after purchasing my uk98 turbo with 42,000 miles on I realised by reading scoobynet that i prolly got piston slap, just sounds horrid when cold but fine when warm, anyway the scooby dealer always brushed it off saying its "just a trait"

although having search these forums im worried its gonna go bang and cause me big probs, also whos gonna want to buy it sounding like that..

Only trouble is my warrenty is now up....Due to the fact that I asked for it to be done whilst i had warrenty where do i stand?

Re-new your warrenty, make sure the piston slap fault is covered. Then dismiss it from your mind, if it goes bang, your covered.

Yozza, I think his warrenty has run out.

If you reported the fault during the warrenty period, then you probably have a legal claim if the warrenty would have covered it, but these after market companies are very slippery.

yeah i never renewed my warrenty cos at the time my insurance was due so coulnt afford it.

I did report it whilst in warrenty and its an authorised subaru dealer so would i have a chance?

mines got piston slap form cold, i've been told by a number of reputbale sources its not a problem

i just warm mine up on the drive 1st thing in the morning and have stopped worrying about it

Has had it since purchase (never noticed due to very loud exhuast that was on it at the time), now doen 20k more miles and sounds exactly the same, no better no worse, so I've given up worrying about it, I just make sure the car is warmed through before maxing the loud pedal.

Does an engine more harm ticking over cold on the drive way than driving it gently.. start it and drive off staying below 3000rpm.. at least until water temp shows normal.. oil takes a little longer than water to get to normal temp though.

You are just lengthening the time it is in the warming up stage by leaving it ticking over..

I always drive off straight away keep below 3000rpm and warm it down.. 139,000miles on the clock now but no slap..

i still need to change my zorst but its not nice having a car thats sounds like a diesel when its cold

oh well when she blows ill get a 2.2 conversion :D
