The Mrs is going to treat me to one in the new year. :)
What's the best value/time one to go for?
Based in South East (decent rally car to drive hopefully)
Cheers,
Mark

Mark S

Bought my other half one from UDrive, he hasn't done it yet, due in the new year at Brand's Hatch. They have an Evo, Scoob and a Porsche :)

Best value is to use your own car and pay for a session on Don Palmers Creative Care Control Course. You will never regret it and come out a better driver, rather than just 'avin' a laff!

Bill Gwynne comes highly recommended (almost next to Silverstone). Not cheap, but you do get to drive a rally prepped scoob :D

dean harris 21 November 2003 07:53 PM

Yep,I second Bill Gwynne.

i went to TI Rallyschool in york,ya drive a mark 2 with full rally spec, its run by a family and ya spend loads of time in the car not like some who only give ya ablot 10 mins in the car all day in total...its about £150 at weekends...where ever ya go ya will have a laugh .. enjoy ya day

I did a two day course with the Forest experience rally school, and that was very good. We drove Mk2 escorts, but it was on real welsh stages (ie trees 6" from the edge of the road in most places). Maybe not good for half a day thrash as you have to learn how to drive before you can give it some (those trees are really close), but excelent if you want to learn how to drive properly on gravel/mud stages.

Can't remember the name of the owner, but his lad just won the american rally series.

Quite expensive though at ~£400 but that included accomodation for the night.

Edited to add,

Oh its in mid-wales

I third Bill Gwynne.
An excellent day out, well worth the money

Chelspeed 22 November 2003 04:25 PM

GaryC - it's Mark Higgins isn't it, the lad that is.

Peanuts 22 November 2003 04:34 PM

I went on the red letter days rally day as a birthday present from mrs Peanuts.
it was in Leicester and run by tangerine dream.

fan-blinkin-tastic is all I can say.
£170 got me go-karting in the morning, then off road in a rally prepped nova, then a rear drive toyota, then a sierra 4x4 cossie then finally the group-n evo V.
wicked, best present ever and indeed it was this that made me bite the bullet and buy my scooby :D
red letter days are available at debenhams i think and if you open an account there at the same time you can get 10 or 15% off your first purchase ;)

I went to rally school Ireland, drove a group N Scubby, after proving myself in a MK2 Escort. Spent half a day in the Scoob, quite a few decent sessions.

Brilliant......

Bit far out, but well worthwhile...

the forest experience rally school lads are David and Mark Higgins, but its very unlikely you will get them as instructors, it's usually Tony, their dad that gives the instruction.

I'm going to the Phil Price rally school in March. I've been told that it is very good.

BexTait 23 November 2003 10:12 PM

Am thinking I may get my bro one for Xmas/ b'day. Are all of these suitable for 17yr olds (with full licence) or do you have to be a certain age and have held full licence for a set number of years?

Gary C 23 November 2003 11:13 PM

Thats the one, Mr Higgins. Mark was their teaching as well, but he said he is often busy. Never mind, his dad is mind blowingly quick. After the 2 day course he drives you round the stage and the speed seems just impossible.

alanbell 23 November 2003 11:20 PM

THANKS GAZZA

RB5Jezza 24 November 2003 01:29 PM

I've just come back from a day at the Forest Experience - fantastic day in real forest stages - highlight of the day was been driven round by Tony Higgins - unbelievable speed - i thought I was quite fast until then...

Well worth the money

Jezza
