Being a bit of a newbie with scooby ownership, Im not quite sure what the differance is with the setup and performance of the 3 models. Which is the fastest and which is the most desirable? I saw a P1 in a Subaru dealers the other day and it looked like a older design than the standard scoob but looked the biz also. I know the former models are a limited run but what else is differant?

Bobby Peru 21 November 2003 12:29 PM

I just went for a P1, this was always my favorite and will keep it's money better in the long term.

ScoobyKev 21 November 2003 01:26 PM

I just bought my second P1. It looks the dogs, goes very well and like booby said, holds its value in the long run.

rb5 is the slowest of the 3 p1 the quickest unless sti has ppp which it would be very close between these two.my opinion is the p1 looks the best of the 3 the rear lights ruin the new sti but looks the dogs from the front that vent is simply awesome.

only thing is with the sti you will have to pay the ppp unless already fitted (second hand) which will cost about an extra 2k

sillysi 21 November 2003 02:56 PM

I went for P1 as it is my favourite. Used to have a MY01 WRX but no longer needed all those doors :-)

compshack 21 November 2003 04:09 PM

Was the P1 built or was overseen by Prodrive? Whats the bhp/touque of the P1?

sillysi 21 November 2003 04:14 PM

IIRC the P1 is an STI 5 Type R. A 1000 were imported by Subaru UK and given to Prodrive to fettle. Have a look on www.p1woc.co.uk for more details.

P1 based more on the 6 than the 5.

Scooby 21 November 2003 04:46 PM

Had an RB5 WR Sport and loved it!

Test drove a P1 and wasn't at all impressed, the front end with those driving lights looks very iffy and the grey added to the interior made it look substandard compared to the RB5.
Performance differential wasn't significant enough to even entertain the notion of changing regardless of price. So stuck to my RB5.

Now have an Sti8 and will be getting the PPP added at the first service imagine it to be slightly quicker than both the RB5 and P1, and with WRSport suspension and wheel/tyres setup - the best of the three, although not in terms of exclusivity.

Canuck 21 November 2003 05:41 PM

LOL @ Scooby. RB5 performance = P1 !! In yer dreams !! :)

Wils 21 November 2003 07:02 PM

Having owned both a P1 & a STI8 PPP, i would go for a P1 with a big brake conversion.

compshack 21 November 2003 07:16 PM

Is the STi 8 PPP the greatest scoob? I know there's the type c, but for everyday useability?

chrisp 21 November 2003 07:24 PM

MY03 WRX PPP 190bhp/ton
+5bhp/ton gets you an
RB5 PPP 195bhp/ton
+12bhp/ton gets you a
MY03 STI PPP 207bhp/ton
+12bhp/ton gets you a
P1 219bhp/ton
+28 bhp/ton gets you a
MY03 sti spec C 247bhp/ton (I think)

Is the STi 8 PPP the greatest scoob?
no but for every day I imagine it is

compshack 22 November 2003 02:44 PM

Just got back from TSL (got my fuel pump uprated) looking at getting a re-map with them, round trip of some 250 miles. I don't feel tried or jarred as you would in a Focus RS or Civic Type r (both I've owned) Coming back I just really liked the car! Now know what I mean when everything just comes together and you just think "what a F**KING great car! Sti 8 full de-cat uprated fuelpump and counting.

RB5 performance = P1 !! In yer dreams
why not? with the WR/PPP enhancement it was dam close!!! ;)

oh and the RB5 is a MUCH more limited edition then the P1

RB5 - 444
P1 - 1000

best thing about the P1 IMO is that its a 2 door, i much prefer the look of that to the 4 doors

chrisp 22 November 2003 03:46 PM

Far more exclusive with a Mcrae, Terzo or a Cat all less than 444 made and can be PPP too up to RB5 WR Sport perfromance ;)

Right that's it, I'm selling my P1 to get an RB5

fatmanscooby 22 November 2003 06:30 PM

Do yourselves all a favour get a Type R

S.B. 22 November 2003 06:33 PM

P1 based more on the 6 than the 5.
But its still started as a 5 :D

DrEvil 22 November 2003 09:14 PM

compshack - I gather you went for the STi8, good choice.

Having owned a MY'00 UK turbo, P1, MY'01 WRX, MY'02 GX and now the STi8 myself, IMHO you have made the right choice. I've already proved to myself that the STi8 (PD springs) corners better than the P1, well the way I drive anyhow! ;)

:D

chrisp 23 November 2003 01:24 PM

Shame you never had a proper full fat JDM motor ;) :D

fatmanscooby 23 November 2003 03:44 PM

lol @ chrisp how true

compshack 23 November 2003 04:23 PM

Yes Dr Evil I have a STi 8. I think it's the best car I have ever had, and I've had a few. Obviously the scoob has evolved from the older models and it's only going to get better!

DrEvil 23 November 2003 08:46 PM

May be next time Chrisp, you never know. :D

Compshack - exactly, enjoy matey.

The power of a P1, the simalar looks of a P1 but the great colours inside and out of a RB5.
(plus people can get in the back and not kick the skirts:))
