How many of you let your other half drive your pride and joy, my missus asked me to put her on the insurance for the scooby if/when i get one soon. So i contacted the Dick Turpins (insurance companies) they wanted an extra £700 to put her on, she's 26 3 yrs no claims and no points, Also got a quote for an Audi RS6 (£58k car, 4.2lt v8 450bhp), overall quote was same as scooby and only £200 to add the missus, go figure??
anyone else had the same problem ?? neadless to say if i get the scooby she wont be driving it.

No problem letting my other half drive my STI8 PPP,
I even let her pick the car up from the dealers when it was brand new. and i had never driven it.

Its not something that bothers me, she has always had access to fast cars

putting the other half on my insurance brought my quote down

scooby-tc 20 November 2003 07:01 PM

Not a chance, maybe in an open field or empty carpark but not on the open road.Thats what micras and novas are for :D

harrymonk 20 November 2003 07:10 PM

Its cheaper if my other half insures my car and i go as named driver 02 sti ppp

halowrx 20 November 2003 07:10 PM

Isnt the speed that worries me its the little quirks like,

Start up and wait till warm, dont go over 3 rpm for ... and as her eyes glaze over I get worried

But my missus was £40 to add to insurance for yr so seemed worth it just in case

DBY 20 November 2003 07:21 PM

Not in a million light years!!!

molly 20 November 2003 07:30 PM

no chance. drives it hard when cold. holds it on the clutch on hills and parks in small gaps in car parks so the door get dinked.
only let her drive when im in the car and can shout at her.

Simonz 20 November 2003 07:32 PM

dont talk daft!

Tim Bomford 20 November 2003 07:52 PM

Yes to the 2 wagons, the STi 2 and the 22B....why not?

Scooby555 2 20 November 2003 07:56 PM

Have to as it is her insurance policy ;)

misty 20 November 2003 07:56 PM

We only argued over the colour, guess who won?.... WRONG,it was me.

Yep no problem appart from wouldn't let her go shopping in it cos she parks in nearest to the door by lots of tw@ts that open their doors on yer pride and joy

S Page 20 November 2003 11:40 PM

My missus old car was a 1.4 escort but she's just changed if for a Seat Leon Cupra which she kerbed one of the alloys within hours of getting it, she still doesnt seem to understand the difference in acceleration, speed and braking between her sh###y escort and the cupra, had a few brown trouser moments the other day, spends more time messing with the stereo than looking where she's driving. Also has no concept of lanes on a roundabout, thinks she can use all at the same time.
Quite glad the insurance quote was so high, i dont now have to have an argument if she asks to drive it.

TORBOTITS 21 November 2003 01:54 AM

No problem with her driving, She dont drive it no where near as hard as me.

scoobiegirlwrx 21 November 2003 07:24 AM

Yer I let him drive my scoob...

Jen 21 November 2003 07:27 AM

nice one scoobiegirl - same here ;):D ...only when he's very lucky though ;)

Johnny50 21 November 2003 07:38 AM

Yep, my other half loves driving mine.

She rekons all the blokes look at her ! :D

Only cost me an extra £27 to put her on my policy. :)

Scooby Snacks 23 21 November 2003 07:49 AM

She loves the scoob! And putting her on brought the insurance down!!

Dazza01 21 November 2003 07:58 AM

She's on the insurance but no she hasn't driven her yet:eek:

kend 21 November 2003 08:09 AM

My wife drove a metro when she first moved in with her. She got my celica when I bought the scooby, now she drives a 206CC. She only uses the scooby if she needs to ferry her elderly father around: "Yes dad, there is a funny scoopy thing on the bonnet, I think it's something to do with the aircon"

jmk 21 November 2003 08:28 AM

She passed her test in May and was insured on the WRX from new (June). Only cost £50 extra on the insurance and actually made the PPP insurance increase lower than it would have been just for myself (over 30 and driving with no claims for 14 years)!!

Must admit the fact that she's insured scares the hell out of me - not because she'd drive fast (new driver + fast car = cautious) but she may crash, kerb the wheels etc. So she's only driven it twice :-)

jimr 21 November 2003 08:48 AM

Same here - insurance premium came down

Gave her a couple of golden rules -the warm up/cool down (which she already followed but still felt the need to mention them) and she seems fine. She even baited me the other day by giving me a call and said she'd just had a race with a golf - 'did you warm it up before you had a play?' - 'well if its wasn't warm then, it is now as we got upto a good 120!!!! - ha ha '

Plus she lets me drive her fiat turbo coupe so I couldn't really say NO........

scooby-si 21 November 2003 11:01 AM

my missus drives the 22b and it fetched the insurance down when we got married

rotf when people wave and take another look its a blooby women driving a 22b lol:D

EddScott 21 November 2003 11:03 AM

The first car my GF drove was my old Nissan GTIR. She did very well considering it had an evil Nismo paddle clutch (possibly the reason why it let go soon after :D)

I have offered to put her on the scoob but she doesn't like it - shame, won't force the issue then ;)

ARM-Scooby 21 November 2003 11:21 AM

getting my sti 8 soon and putting my g/f on the insurance has lowered it by £60. she wasnt interested in driving it at first but now she has come around to it. Dont mind her driving it as long as i am about, not to sure about the wet though!

S Page 21 November 2003 12:10 PM

Keep it quiet from the missus but what insurance companies are some of you with for your quotes to go down or only increase a little bit and what sort of prices you paying, i'm 31 and have 9yrs no claims and 3 points. Must have been real Dick Turpins i called.

Oh almost forgot they offered me a £36 reduction if i had a tracker fitted, so much for the 10-20% discounts available as Tracker state.

Supercue 21 November 2003 12:24 PM

<Flame Suit On Shields Up>

What a stupid thread. That's almost as bad as giving Saddam Nukes.
Then the blokes come on hear grizzling she's curbed the alloys, dinked the doors etc. etc. If we must let women on the roads buy them a tricycle;)

Women according to Insurance companies have less "big accidents" than men...thats coz they've seen loads in the rear mirror. They cause so much grief with their ineptitude for driving.

I listen to my other half and think OMFG glad it wasn't me anywhere nearby.

When was the last time you heard a woman say "Yep it's my fault"?

Chain them to the kitchen sink then, the world plus the roads and most important our Scoobs will be a lot safer:D
