Hi all

I'm currently thinking of my first Impreza, but have been getting a few negatives from the guys at work. They all moan about running costs and fuel consumption etc, not that any of them have ever had one. Anyway, question is this, if i get an 01 (Y or 51) WRX, what can i realistically expect for:

Servicing costs (including parts)?
Fuel Costs, (Most travel will be around town, quite sensible driving, with the odd blast and at weekends ;-) )?

Will i need to use super unleaded, or is the normal stuff OK?

I test drove one last week, and the young lady in the deales told me "17-20ish MPG if you drive hard all the time, and 35ish if you are careful, is this Bo%^*cks?, she als said servicing was £150- 200 every 12 months???


Help me out here, i'm not being tight, it just seems there is widly differing opinions on these cars, and i want to go into it knowing what to expect.........

Not had any servicing dome yet besides the 1000 miler so can't say; however your local dealer will quote you for a routine cost. Reckon on 20mpg around town if you're lucky, if you're boots in maybe 15, trackday maybe 10-12.

Buy one and you won't regret it, but make sure you get insurance first. Also, if you need a tracker for insurance and the car already has one, typically you'll still need to pay a £100 reg fee pa.

I've had loadsa, performance cars and nothings ever been anywhere near as much fun as the scoobys, BUY ONE you will not regret it!

You'll want to run Optimax as you'll notice the difference and the perry costs can be a little high but for the performance its worth it....I get 180 ish from a £38 tank of Opti in MY02 WRX. Sounds pretty harsh I know but I once had a Golf VR6 which was nowhere near as quick and it would eat fuel at 14 MPG!

I wouldnt agree with the dealer, but that said the new shape is better on fuel.

With mods I get 200 to a tank max and servicing can be costly if u go through a dealer...that said u get the scoob grin..:-)

If u look in the right places its not bad to get parts and servicing recommend u check out the service costs first

The scoob is a fairly expensive beast to run, but it's a fantastic car in so many ways! I'm onto my second- an 03 WRX. I had a new shape Mondeo briefly while trying to economise, then decided life is too short.....

Servicing is reasonable (given the performance), consumption is a bit high, but greatly depends on your right foot and driving style.

I religiously calulate my MPG and the average is just under 22 (mainly B road driving with the odd dual carriagway). On a good motorway run with little overtaking it may rise to 26. I managed 30 in my MY99 during the fuel crisis, mainly by coasting :0 35 may be achievable with a sail on the roof or if you convert it to LPG! Nice try love!
200-230 per tank seems the norm. If you want real fun, and drive like a hooligan I can tell you single figure MPG is almost achievable. Just remember to set aside some cash for the speeding tickets :)

Tyres will set you back a few quid- maybe £450 for 4 every 12000 miles - again depends on your style.

It does indeed put a smile on your face every day- just try not to think of the bills!
