In the mornigs I've had to turn the ignition over for 8-10 seconds before the engine will fire. This has only been happening over the last month or so. The car is at main dealers at moment having 10k service and prodrive springs fitted, he reckons its "probobly" the ECU but his attitude and does not inspire me with confidence and / or trust.
Any views much appreciated.

Thanks

my STi does this too.

just had PPP fitted, and no difference - still a bugger to start.

if left to stand for 2-3 days, starts fine.

overnight or 4-5hrs, terrible.

awaiting to hear further from dealer.

mine is the exact opposite.... turn the key and its firing instantly... too soon it seems like.... my bros sti8 though, is a pain to start.

has your brother been to your dealer to investigate?

yep ordered him a new crank sensor... but by the looks of it from previous posts, it wont help :(

Bit more info / update since first .posted

The car has been PPP'd since new and was fine until the damp weather started . I first reported it to main dealer about a month ago and was told to bring it in to have the ECU "reset". No change, problem still there.

Car went in for 10k service yesterday and problem investigated and reported to Steve Gledhill (Subaru Customer care) who said that this IS A RECOGNISED FAULT WITH NO CURRENT SOLUTION but memo apparently soon to follow. I said that the car cost me alot of money and find this unnaceptable but was told nothing could be done by him and any complaint/ compensation needed to go via a main dealer. I told him that if I wasn't an enthusiast and this was my old M3 I'd give BMW the keys, take a courtesy car and say phone me when its fixed.

To my main dealers defence they are going to fit my prodrive springs FOC and only charge me cost for the springs.

I just hope this cold start business gets swiftly sorted.

Just for my info, what kind of temperature we are talking about? Last winter at my location we had mornings with - 30 degree by Celcium and my STI7 was starting OK. Sometimes not from the first attempt but still starting...
