Curious problem...

When I switch the car (MY94) off for a while and I leave it for between 10 and 30 (depending on how hot it is) minutes it won't start.

The starter just kicks and kicks but it won't start. I had an experience with something like his before in a Renault 5 Turbo where some petrol fumes would evaporate and it wouldn't start for about 20 mins. (had to insulate the fuel lines)

Just wondering it it's the same of a more specific problem..

It's difficult to say, but as an ex-R5 GT Turbo pilot I would think that this is unlikely. As you say, this problem was caused by heat soak boiling the petrol in the fuel lines which creates a vapour lock.

Are there any other symptoms? Is your fuel consumption very heavy (even for a Scooby http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif)
If memory serves, the two most common causes of starting problems are a dodgy cam angle sensor, or a defective water temperature sender.

Neither are too difficult or expensive to fix you'll be pleased to hear http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

I experienced the same problem with my MY94. The dealer couldn't trace the problem as it occured not regularly but only in a given temperature range (e.g. after picking the car up from the dealer an taking it to a fueling station just down the road).

After hooking the car up on the system monitor, my dealer noticed that there was an error code memorized which pinpointed the problem to the cankshaft sensor. After he replaced it (ca. £100), I never had any problems again.
