I've been out of console gaming for a while - the DC is sat in a corner gathering dust... A relative wants to buy me a pressie for xmas, so what's the best console at the moment? GC, PS2 or XBOX??
I don't like confusing 3D games and want a console that I can get a dance mat for the missus. My all time favourite games are Crash Bandicoot, F Zero and the NES version of Super Mario Brothers (didn't like any of the other Mario releases)...

I have PS2 and XBOX and if I had to choose one to take to a desert island it would be XBOX, not that it would work without power of course :-)

go for a gameboy advance, sounds like you would prefer those games.

I've got a GBA but want something to play on my rear projection telly!!

I've seen quite a few Xbox systems on ebay with a different hard drive and loads of games installed - are these ok?? I realise I would lose a warranty...

one for sale on here mate, look in for sale :) £150 with 10games.. not sure if they are originals or not.

if you do go for a chipped, make sure it has a switch to go back to the original bios, so u can play games online with xbox live (if needed).

I have both a xbox and a gamecube, and love them both :) I would say perhaps the gamecube is more sorted for you, has the usualy nintendo games, and they are all great :)

Mario Sunshine, Zelda, F-zero, Mario kart,.. also other games to consider : starwars rogue sqaud 2 (much better than #3 in my opinion), Burnout 1 or Burnout 2, Pikman etc.. some good ones out :)

Regarding a dance mat, one is not available for either the gc or xbox yet - it is only currently available for the ps1 and ps2.

I am not sure if a dance mat is coming out for the gc, but one is coming out for the xbox in the usa sometime in december.

I thought Stepmania was out already!? I've definately seen a game available to download (direct from their web site) but I didn't think you could get the mats yet hence I didn't take much notice.

defo the xbox, get it chipped then u can play all ya normal games plus u can bang on some old emulators on there and play mario from the nes on it :D or whatever other games

Xbox - its a no brainer.

Cube is good as well, but mainly for the kiddie cartoony crap, main time I play it is beered up with some mates for the multi player like Monkey Ball and Beach Spikers :D Otherwise, sober, its xbox all the way!

Ps2 is all you need;)

the xbox pisses all over the ps2, ive extensively played on both systems and xbox wins easy.

The Excellent TimeSplitters2 is out on PS2 and Xbox, but seeing as the Xbox isnt getting Gran Turismo 4 or Tomb Raider, then I'm afraid its the Sony machine for me...

The X box isnt the answer to everyones gaming needs.Im quite interested in the Gamecube,excellent value and some classic games available.

I would never buy a X box purely on the fact that its Microsoft:D,and i have had many unpleasant experiances with WIndowz.
As for it Pissing over the PS2,well maybe on performance,graphics etc.But how long has the PS2 been out for now??;)When the New PS3 comes out it will piss over the Xbox.Its swings and roundabouts mate.

Id rather go for a good stable platform nowadays.Sony wins hands down on that;)How many PSx's were sold worldwide??:D:D
And the huge choice of games on the PS2 makes me stay.
Look in the game shop for the choice of NEW games on the xbox.

Then look at the 2ND hand games section for PS2.Yes most have been on the PS2 for 6 months or more and now just getting onto the xbox:D
Why should i buy a Xbox just for a few games that arnt Straight Ports over onto the box from a Pc or PS2.

And as for that Dumbass controller.Well theres another story!:D

u can use any usb controller on a chipped xbox.

It was the better machine with better features for me - I don't give a toss who its made by as long as I stick a game in, turn it on and it works......

Buy yourself a game cube and a copy of Beach Spikers

Xbox is worth it just for the Halo experience.

PS2 is still good, but the graphics on the XBOX are far superior.

There's no game on the PS2 that even comes close to Project Gotham Racing 2 or Halo imho

The PS2 was a fantastic console, but it's had its day

The X-Box is the only console worth having now and the X-Box 2 will be even better, obviously it will take time to eat into Sony's market share but that's starting to happen already as people discover the versatility of the X-Box
