Hi All,
I read this: "My PFR7's lasted no time at all -having put in racing 8's the advance has actually been turned up as a result..... cheap MOD!!" At what time to You guys thing it will be better to change to 8īs over the seven?. I hope soon to get a 06/20G and i was wondering if itīs better to run 8īs to get advance or more power,or do you thing that the 7īs are fine. I hope to get around 370-380 hp without octanebooster with this turbo. All info would be great Skassa |
My comment
At the sort of power your running you may be ok with the 7's - that was just my experience and results along with a few other owners I know who are now on Racing 8's |
How much boost were you running Steve?
I would run 8s if they cold start OK, but I head they are dogs? |
All you are doing is running a cooler temp plug, which may give some pre ignition problems if the fuel octane is too high.
Cold starts nay be better, but should be fun if engine gets really hot. |
The plugs get rid of the pre-ignition problems that you have with the likes of the non-race plugs like PFR7's - they dont increase them
Cold start has not been a problem at all. Then again I have a fully mappable ECU so the map can be tweaked for the slightly colder plugs Didnt want the end of the plug falling off into the chamber - didnt that happen to either Bob Rawle or Harvey Regarding Boost - I was running at 1.8 Bar - now I'm running at 1.5 Bar - the spark plugs made a big difference on the mapping session with Bob |
Thanks,
then it seems like we need to drive with the 8īs are they called PFR8B or is it something else Thanks, Skassa |
Do a search on the thread 'Racing Spark Plugs' - you will find the code for the cheaper Racing 8 plugs here I believe
|
Thanks,
I have found it. Just for the info itīs Either NGK R7119-8 Or NGK R7235-8 Thanks, Skassa |
7235's are about Ģ80 cheaper!
|
I too, am now on NGK R7235-8 from www.spark-plugs.co.uk as I too had a problem with the Iridium plugs after 6k miles.
I have a suspicion that when adjusting the gap, it may be that the "tool" fouls on the centre ceramic insulation causing a tiny crack which then deteriorates under stress until it cracks right across, allowing the cylindrical ceramic insulator to move to the gap, (which was the result in my failed plug) which caused massive det under any boost at all. Thanks,
I will tomorrow see if the 7235-8 is in stock here in Denmark, Thanks, Skassa |
best of luck - I had to get the 7119's at Ģ144 as the 7235's were out of stock in the UK - they should have some now though!!
Stan - what power is your engine kicking out now after the debacle at Well Lane? |
fangoria -YHM !!
Stan |
Hmm,
Both the R7119-8 and the R7235-8 can not be purchased in Denmark, So i think i will start with the PRF7B,as i have a new set in stock. Then i must see how it goes or how long they will last. Skassa |
I always found that colder running plugs were less likely to cause pre-ignition since the heat conducts away from the points more quickly. Of course this also makes them more likely to oil or soot up.

I would have said 7s for 370-380.
Rob ran 7s on his and that was at 410bhp and that was only 1.5 bar. He was actually running 1.8 round town but for some reason it would get rolling roaded on 1.8 |
I would disagree with the above...
but its IMHO. seek advice of the person who is mapping your car.. I wouldnt really go above 350 with 7's |
Doh!
Running 400bhp on 7s. Seem OK. Up till now (Daily driver?). |
Forgot to say TD05/06 20G.
Mapped for Booster/FMIC. Steve. |
each to their own..
"Daily driver" getting fed up of hearing that :D whats a daily driver? one that doesnt break gearboxes? Nah in my book a daily driver is one that you only ever open the bonnet when theres a problem.. our 307HDI is a daily driver.. :D David |
Hello Dave
Daily Driver. To me. Everyones different. Can jump in. Starts OK. Idles fine. Trundle to work. Take bairn to child minders/nursery. Can turn off A/B. roads and be XS. fun thru backroads. Be rest assured MY car looks anything but. Yet. It can be used, any time. All time out has been due to application of Mods. Other than that did 20,000 miles last Yr. Will be lot less this Yr. Have never Tracked or 1/4rd (No intension) Don't think they were built for that! Steve. |
:D :D
|
440bhp on 7's :) Weekend driver :D Tried HKS Iridium 35i's but had misfires at full boost within 1000 miles so refitted my old 7's again
SG's car is a daily driver. It's a kitten to drive off boost despite 400+bhp. Andy ps Steve - Have you got rid of that IHI turbo sticker yet ;) |
Top marks Andy.
Can't beat that ol' TD 05 /06 20g. Bairn swears by it. 'fact. Sure , he's grown 2". Since fittin'a fortnight ago.LOL! Still have an IHI Turbo Andy ('t's in a box marked "FOR SALE"). Car was Beaut' Today! Steve. |
Thanks,Guys
I will try with the PFR7B and see how it goes, I wonder how much i can get out of the TD05/06-20G on plain 98octan. Skassa |
