Well, another little problem with my UK MY99 Impreza Turbo. I put this in the technical bit with no luck. Please help!

Since I got the car I have noticed that there is a funny noise that comes from my pedal area when I dip the clutch at high revs. Hard to describe the noise effectively but the best I can describe it as is like a low pressure dump valve noise. I dont think its pnuematic though, but it does not sound fatal although it does not sound as if it is meant to be there either. The gears are spot on and there is no noise at low revs when the clutch is depressed.

I spoke to the Subaru garage and the top mecahnic bloke said that it is normal as Subarus have finger clutches (??!) I know of a guy with a 2000 Forester Turbo and he had a similar issue.

Is this common or should I be worried and looking at a big bill? What could be wrong if anything and what would it need to sort it both in parts and £'s???!!

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Al

Likeliest suspect is a worn/dry clutch release bearing. If you're up to a bit of DIY you can get an STi release bearing as a spare part and fit yourself (gearbox removal job).

If you want a dealer/independent specialist to do it, it'll be a three/four hour job. In these circumstances, if your clutch is well worn, it'd be better to do the whole job while they've got it in bits.
