Hi

I have a problem (clutch?)that makes it difficult to change gear - especially when stationary or coming down the gearbox. It feels as though syncromesh is not allowing selection. Reverse gear grinds in. The fault does occur up the gearbox, but does not seem so bad. It also seems worse when car is warm.

Ace Kensington says it is the clutch (£600+VAT job!!), but my local engineer says it is definitely not the clutch but cannot find the cause!!

If anyone can offer advice as to what to do now it would be much appreciated.

Do Scoobysport or Scoobymania do repairs such as these?

Thanks in advance

Hi Paul

If you want a diagnosis feel free to bring the car around. If it is the clutch then we can supply you with an AP Racing clutch that is as easy to use if not easier than the standard one and yet rated to 360bhp.

Kind regards

Hi Paul,

If your clutch was dragging that could cause the gear selection problems. If you are having problems engaging 1st when stationary with your foot on the clutch, then this would seem likely.

Get it looked at quickly as your syncros will be taking a bashing if this is the case.
Autocar reported similar problems with their long term car which were resolved by replacing the clutch and pressure plate.

Cheers,

Alex

P.S. why did your engineer say that he had ruled out a clutch problem? It may not be slipping, but it could be not fully disengaging from the flywheel.

I went back to basics with my clutch problems soon after a new one was fitted.

After various garages I went to a local MOT station and asked them to replace and bleed the clutch fluid.

Well, this last weekend has been fun, having a clutch that doesn't let the rest of the car down.

Ace Kensington were useless when I had my Saab. When I bought the Scooby and enquired as to the price of a service they told me to bring the car down so they could ascertain which model it was.
That was the closest my Scooby got to them!

Thanks for the replies guys.

Sorry about the long time before my reply due to my office move.

Strangely, the car seems better at the moment. If it continues I will visit Scoobymania. I just need a quick fix as the car goes back to the contract hire firm in the summer.

Clutch has done OK I feel at 74000 miles(MY98).

Thanks again
Paul
