Any good?

AvalancheS8 18 November 2003 04:38 PM

Can't find any info on it, but put it this way, after having worked in the cycle trade for 6 years, my instant reaction was to reply "No" without even looking for any info. I did look for info though and couldn't find any. C.B just isn't a good make for mountain bikes I'm afraid, some of them might be O.Kish at best but it's safe to say you could get a better bike. What is the C.B you were looking at like ? What sort of thing are you looking for ? I'll try and recommend some bikes to look at.

Ooops - already bought it! I wanted a 'heavy' mtb so it makes me work harder, on-road use (just started riding 5 miles an evening)

Just wanted an opinion on whether I've bought a good bike or not, looks like not then!

Ooh, that's kind of embarrasing !! If you are planning to ride it mainly on road though then it'll be fine, just a bit of case of the difference between a SWB Landrover and a jacked up "softroader" with big stuck on plastic bits if you actually wanted to do any serious off road riding.

What I do at the weekends doesn't really tolerate anything other than very serious kit:

In that case out comes the spray cans - gonna stealth it before anyone I know spots me! :D

You wanted a heavy bike? Sheesh, I'm always trying to lose weight from mine; it's now 21lbs but I can shave just a little more off!

Depends on what you want a bike for. If you just want it for on-road transport, fair enough, just about anything will do, though I'd stick slicks on it if I were you. If you want to use it for off-road, what a lot of people find is that they pay a low price for a bike then replace it after just a few months (or even weeks) because the suspension is crude, the brakes don't work, it's a heavy old lump and parts fail very quickly.

I don't know about the bike you've bought, and I'm certainly not trying to have a go; anyone who's getting off their backside and exercising is to be applauded. But if you carry on with it you'll almost certainly upgrade/replace your bike, so get the wallet ready.

Wossat you're riding - Rocky Mountain of some sort? Being an XCer I'm not really up on DH/freeride bikes .... I like to ride UP hills as well.

:D Bit of DH classic - Santa Cruz Super 8. Custom Avalanche rear shock and '02 Marzocchi Monster T's. About 46 lbs of squishy lovin' !! It's not the lastest thing any more but it's utterly bombproof and it works very, very well so I'm not going to waste money on buying something new just yet. Also a bit shorter than a lot of the current DH bikes, which works better for the sort of tight courses we have in Scotland.
