Hi..
Which of the above is better? I have a MY03 WRX (no PPP) and would like a decat-system for upraded performance and sound. Might go for Ekutek later on. So which one to go for: http://www.aps-wrx.com/us_spec/subaru/exhausts/apswrx-hoe-r2/apswrx-hoe-r2.htm or www.scoobyexhausts.com Thanks guys... Martin |
Martin, I run the APS system on my 03 STi, Works good for me, never tried the other type so I can't help you there. Any good 3" system without the cats will be good. WRX's also have cats in the up pipe which can break up and go into the turbo  Consider changing the up pipe at the same time. Either way I wouldn't reccommend that you do it without the ECUTEK remap just to be safe. :D

Did'nt think 03's have the up-pipe cat!
|
RSVR - yes, I know about the up-pipe, but certainly not that it could break....hmmmm
So changing this sounds like a good idea as well - did look into it a little - I believe one should go for a flexible type. Does anyone know of a good one.. And the Ekutek...is it nessesary at this point (or are you just kidding). Hayward & Scott has a good offer on the Ekutek (600Ģ) if I do it all at once. Just give me a good excuse to go the extra mile..... :D |
Maybe this one....

If you do go for the APS system you can still get a cheap remap here ;)

Thanks Daz34 - I found out that the APS is more or less double the price of the H&S....
Anyone know why and if it's worth the extra penny? |
I found out that the APS is more or less double the price of the H&S H&S aren't cheap either but you do certainly get what you pay for with them. |
Scott, O3 WRX's have cats in up-pipes, 03WRX STI's Dont. ;)
MSONE, not sure why the APS is far more money than the others, a lot of "other systems" are 2.5" rather than 3" just make sure you get the 3" full system. Apparently Revolution Motorsports 3" system is the elephants danglies and is a really good price (under Ģ500  ) Definitely to go for a remap after serious breathing mods (In or Out) to stop it blowing up and to reap the FULL benefits of your new goodies :) Conrad |
I would go for the H&S system including up-pipe and a EcuTek remap.
Does this means that you sold the "old" green one? :) |
But than again I would see if it's possible to get some parts that would retain your waranty. I don't know if you have any options for that living in Denmark.
I'm still pissed over the fact that Subary would'nt cover a 2 months old gearbox because I was running with a turbo back HKS exhaust?? |
APS is quite pricey, but IMHO worth it. Why?
Sports cat in downpipe (it's cheaper if you delete cat option). It is 3" the whole way up until the backbox, which most other systems aren't - that does mean that you can't mix and match with other centre sections/downpipes. It also takes a much straighter route than many "modular" tyoe exhausts, to improve flow. Whilst the H&S is good quality, I believe the APS is significantly better still (and is backed by a lifetime warranty, although 25 years from H&S should be enough!). It has a cast downpipe, for better shape and improved thermal properties, with an integrated splitter. It has a long centre resonator to keep boom down on the cruise. It is certainly quieter on the cruise than the full H&S system, but quite a few people have commented that mine sounds very nice when giving it stick (although still too quiet for some, I guess) Personally, having been in H&S equipped cars, I've never regretted paying more and getting the APS. I prefer having the sports cat for emmissions testing, but each to their own. |
If you want a sports cat in down pipe ,just ask as we can also do that !!

Martin,
Itīs out in the open :D Skassa |
>Skassa
I guess so :( ...for some at least. But still looking forward to Nov 30th :D - are you comming? >Hades Good info mate - thx. What about all those lovely noises when lifting off - rumble and pops - do you still get those with the CATs on?? >Ian - Could you please clarify a little on the differences between the 2,5" and a 3" system - pros and cons? (ie. noise, backpressure, flow, interchangeble with original parts etc..) Thanks a lot guys |
Almost, Martin called me last night and told me to keep it a secret ;)
|
And why you mention that a full decat needs remap?
May be you will not get the full benefits from the exhaust without remap but why it isn't safe? JIM |
I guess because the increased flow would create a higher boost in the turbo???:confused:

Ian (Scooby Exhausts), I'm looking for a Sports Cat downpipe for my STi 7 as I'm not convinced that the car would get through the MOT with the secondary Cat in place.
I would prefer the open mouth type and obviously to mate up with the secondary cat or de-cat pipe. Please e-mail off line with availability/price. cheers Andy |
