Just wondering if this is ok, after driving my sti2(my95)hard e.g on the quarter mile strip i've noticed some water lying on the inner wing just below the swirl pot (i think it's the swirl pot, black plastic pot on drivers side inner wing). It's only a few drops and i cant see a leak anywhere. Is this normal? or should i be looking out for something? Also a while ago after a hard drive the bottom hose came off the swirl pot (the one that goes into the inner wing i presume for draining any overflow) but this hasn't happened since i put it back on.

Its probable a bit of excess water that has been pushed out due to a minor spike in the coolant water pressure due to what you were doing with the car. Sudden and quick demands on an engine can cause these symptoms, especially if the engine is not "cooled down" properly once the "run" is completed.
As long as this colant loss is not persistant, things should settle down again.

Cheers for the info, i will keep an eye on it, also i always let it cool down after a hard run and warm it up beforehand.

The pot you refer to is the carbon canister and is for emissions and nothing to do with the coolant..

The header tank for the coolant system is on drivers side of the inlet manifold, there is then an over flow tank which only overflows out into and not back into the system, this is on the passenger inner wing.. the pipe from the header tank runs along to this along the engine side of the radiator.

Check all the pipes are on properly...

There are four connections to the header tank.. iirc..

Top back connects to the turbo, bottom back connects between the inlet manifold on drivers side.. then on the top but the filler cap a small rubber pipe connects to the metal pipe bolts to the back of the radiator which then runs to the over flow tank.. which is often empty..
and then the other small pipe on the front of the header tank runs to the top drivers side corner of the radiator.

i have seen this a few times and has turned out to be a crack in the rad end tank, have a look at the drivers side front end tank for cracks as its a common problem.

Cheers i'll check the rad again, thought there was a leak there at first but it didn't seem to continue leaking from it.

Although i still havn't looked at it (too dark when i get home from work) i'm certain it is the rad, i'm losing a lot more water now, so much i've stopped using the car. Anyway anyone know how much a rad is for a sti2? phoned the dealer and quoted 175 for a recore, is the rad alloy?

around £150 seems to be the going rate for a rad. :)
