This is something I have thought about doing at some stage.
My main concern is the thought of putting stress somewhere else in the car when [trying] to put the car through its paces at the Pod or on track days.
Were you told of any possible negative attributes when buying your clutch.
Not a slur intended toward Scoobymania or AP Racing. I would just like to know.
Oh, I've got a MY98.

Bajie,
I was told that there shouldn't be any problems with the AP Racing replacement clutch. If there had been, I wouldn't have gone ahead with the purchase.
It is a known fact that the Scooby gearbox is not exactly the strongest component within the car, so this is why I went for the clutch that I did, rather than a fierce paddle type (a la 22B), which puts additional stress on the already weak gearbox.

The clutch is £337 + VAT and only £150 to fit (about six hours work), so now with a beefier clutch, I can't wait to get my Possum Link installed! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Dear all,
My poor Scooby had recently been suffering from clutch slip (at peak torque in the higher gears, esp.) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif
It is difficult to describe just how frustrating this can be, when the rest of the car works so beautifully!!

I looked around at alternatives and decided upon the AP Racing clutch, supplied by Ben at ScoobyMania. The clutch had to be able to handle 350BHP & 350 lb/ft torque.

I was amazed at the results!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
The pedal is actually lighter in operation than with the standard STi5 unit!
It has a very progressive feel and when it bites, it bites!
Gear changes seem smoother, with less stress on the gearbox and I'm now able to slow the gear change down a little and still get the same progress. Ace.
The clutch is way cheaper than the "official" upgraded STi clutch and in my opinion couldn't possibly be as good! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
If anyone would like any more info on this mod. or more details on my findings just let me know.

Regards,

Howdy..

Glad you are happy with it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

What did you actually change ?

Friction Plate ? Pressure/Cover Plate ? Release bearing ? What was included in the kit ?

Standard fly wheel ?

J.

J,
The kit comprised : Pressure / Cover plate and also the Friction plate. I also made sure a new release bearing was fitted (about £70 from a Subaru dealer).
I used the standard flywheel, as after only 8,000 miles it didn't look as if it needed skimming.

Kind regards,

Tim http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
