As per title , which oil is best for running in new engines?
Cheers Dave

Hiya, We use and recommend a Standard [ Non synthetic ] 15W40 or 15W50 oil for the first 3000 miles with a change at 1000 miles. New filter every time of course.

At 3000 you can use any Top quality branded oil of your choice providing that you stick to the above viscosity.

Thereafter change oil and filter every 3000 and change as per recommendations elsewhere on Scoobynet. I'm sure someone will come on with a clicky thing to get you there easily.

Good luck David API Engines

I personally used a mineral oil 10/40 for the first 500 * 1000, (which allegedly aids wear in.....) miles then upgraded to fully syn 10/50

The same with you, Mineral 10W/40 for the first 1000miles and then full synthetic Motul V300 10W/40.

The only issue with changing to synthetic early in the life of an engine is whether it has fully bedded in the piston rings.

In our experience going over to a fully synthetic oil with so many friction reducing additives can actually polish a bore to a mirror finish and the only way then to stop oil consumption is to strip, hone and try again. { The engine of course !! LOL }

Your risk guys.

APIDavid, i take it a semi-synthetic oil to run an engine in is also a no-no? just a bog-standard, not synthetic in any way oil?

Cheers
