Soory could someone point out the logic behind these two? 3 mph more and a six month ban and £1600 greater fine?

While the vast majority of speed detection devices employed by the safety camera partnership on the event were clearly revenue raisers, the location in which the drivers were caught on shakedown in 2002 (the village of Abergarwed) is an accident blackspot.

In addition all crews were clearly warned prior to the rally to expect this sort of enforcement, and not take any chances.

BTW, Weava, the rallycars aren't allowed to carry speed detection evasion devices.

So, just to clarify, they can put the effort in to catching some of the best drivers in the world in some of the most sophisticated cars doing slightly more than the limit but they missed the thieving scum who were busy emptying people's cars at this year's event?? Sounds about right.

They use "Road Safety" cameras and not "Speed Cameras" so obviously a major Accident hotspot ;) probably in 1907 a car ran over the man with the Red flag :rolleyes: and was deemed a boy racer .

The "Police" wanted due to safety concern's over the Rally of Britain stop the un-controlable traffic problems all over the UK during this event.

Hence the "Rally of Wales" :( more like put all the fish out the lake, into a barrel then shot to kill :(:(

I say move out of Wales before they kill the sport off all together :(

The offences were on shakedown, I don't think that is included as it is non competative.

you do the crime you do the time as they say.

You or I would have got three points for speeding in that area so why shouldn't anyone else?

I went and handed out some abuse to the scummers that operate these 'safety' camera's. They told me that speed camera's had saved 7 lives in Dorset this year ?!?"?!? AND JUST HOW THE HELL DID THEY WORK THAT OUT! 7 Lives is too small a figure to be given statistical significance. Perhaps if it was 700 lives then yes, that proves they work.... ...but we all know its just more ways the government can make money and keep tabs on us... ...after all it looks like 1984 began in 1997...

The funny thing is if they have a go at the rally drivers then the they may move it somewhere else which wont be good for Wales.

Knowing these cars are in the area maybe a few signs and obvious police presence would have been more beneficial.

Kris Meeke is the one it hits the hardest.
He had 1 offence but went over the limit on points.

Most of the WRC drivers will have a 2nd licence so as long as they don't drive in the UK, they're ok.

But Kris does the British Championship, but can't do it next year now. And he's probably the UK most promising up and coming driver.

An expensive lesson for him, and I'm not talking about money.

So the police obtain evidence of a driver exceding the speed limit to such an extent as to justify prosecution (i.e. it is dangerous).

They then let the same driver break the speed limit a second time a few minutes later, again collecting sufficient evidence to obtain a prosecution.

They then let the same driver break the speed limit a third time a few minutes later, again collecting more evidence to obtain another prosecution.

They then let the same driver break the speed limit a fourth time a few minutes later, collecting even more evidence to obtain yet another prosecution.

They then let the same driver break the speed limit a fifth time a few minutes later, yet again collecting evidence for a successful prosecution.

They then let the same driver break the speed limit a sixth time a few minutes later, with you guessed it, more evidence.

They then let the same driver break the speed limit a seventh time a few minutes later, yet again collecting evidence for a successful prosecution.

This quite obviously has nothing to do with road safety, and IMHO the police should be prosecuted for "aiding and abetting" a driver whilst committing a moving traffic offence. If it was indeed so dangerous, they should have stopped him on the second repeat of an offence at the very latest :rolleyes:

Good point if it is not about money why let the supposed dangerous behaviour continue i suppose on this basis they would let some body comit muggings after mugging for 7 times then arrest him.

I hope they move the Rally else where and make sure the world knows why. this level of police inforcement does nothing but raise revenue and alienate the public. still surprises me when coppers moan about the way the public treat them i know nobody who has any time for them any more we all just think of them as Tax collectors first and security guards for the rich and famous second.

And before people point out they shouldn't have broken the speed limit that is not the point i am making it is the total blind obedience to this one traffic law which accounts for about 7% of road accidents and the ignoring of all of crimes. Try to get a copper to deal with some thing like a burglary. got more chance if you report a speeding vehicle of getting an attendance as there is profit in it.

If this persecution continues then GB will lose its Rally round.
But lets not forget that there were speed restriction signs up, and they were told, and it was a shakedown so no one should be in any particular hurry. So you have to wonder why the guys got caught !

I am not in favour of this continued persecution of Motorists, we are seen as an easy target. Just look at North Wales, they have the lowest crime resolution rate, but they just bought a Multi Million pound Helicopter primarily for speeding motorists. They have most of their resources targeted at motorists to the point where Tourism, their biggest earner is being seriously affected.
